Beginner: AWeber - Valuable?

Hi,

I'm an IM beginner - and have been looking around and researching on the net for ways to get started. I have started, but at the moment, other than a course of generating traffic, and a years subs to The Best Spinner, I haven't spend anything. Those two thing I have bought have been worthwhile.

I have found a wordpress plugin that is free (WP Responder - hasn't been updated for a while, but contacted the owner and he said it will be soon), and appears to do the same thing as aweber. Is aweber something that is really going to help me, and if so, how? Is there something else I should concentrate my cashflow on instead?

Are there other alternatives that are either cheaper, or better, or can I make do with what I have for the time being?

    Hello Martin,

    I love Aweber for it's ease of use and low price point and have been using it for a while for my lists. No problems with it. I'd recommend it. As far as free alternatives, I did a search of the forum here and found this discussion: http://www.warriorforum.com/main-int...ve-aweber.html

    If you have a decent list, you might be able to average $1 earned per month for every person on your mailing list.

    I earn about 20 cents per person per month, but I don't mail often.

    Nevertheless, with my really small mailing list, aweber pays for itself every month.

    GetResponse is slightly cheaper than aweber.

    Running your own list off your own service can be painful, especially if your software doesn't handle unsubs in a proper way.

    Another advantage is using an existing service is that they take care to increase your delivery rates. If you are using your own mailing lists, then you don't have the clout to increase your delivery rates.

      I use Aweber as well. For me the decision was one of long-term planning.

      IF I tried to save a buck in the beginning and built a list with a free service, then decided that I wanted the bells & whistles that a service like Aweber offers...

      I'd would have everyone reconfirm and potentially lose a huge portion of my list.

      So it's part future-proofing and part "I like the bells & whistles!"

      How do GetResponse and AWeber compare?
      Looking at their front pages GetResponse is offering a free version, and AWeber appears to offer more features - is that a fair analysis?
      If they're the same I will obviously go for the free version, until I have something to make money, if it is features, and reach then aweber appears to be the way to go, with the social media integration?

        You will never have subscribers if you don't first start a proper list. :p

        Flip a coin for the most part. I think aweber is more easily integrated into list building tools, because it is actually available in more list building tools.

        That is how I started with aweber. When I started using one list building tool, it was my only option.

    I went from getting one subscriber a week to about 5 per day in my first month of using aweber, really good service, worth a shot. There's also a free autoresponder for WordPress blogs to use, called "WP Autoresponder".

    However you'd eventually want to get Aweber or GetResponse

      PS. To get the free "WP Autoresponder", simply go to plugins, search for it and install. Easy peasy

      Is that due to your skills as a marketer, or completely the way AWeber works? Could ;you give examples or how this was achieved please?

    It's a bit like saying I want to start a shop but I don't want to buy a cash register as that sounds expensive.

    If you want to earn money you need to spend money on the right tools. Used properly an autoresponder such as aweber will earn you thousands per month. It's your way of communicating with customers.

    However before you jump into awerber have a think about what and how you're going to build your list. What are you give people in exchange for their email address?

    It's best to create a lead magnet first, and then see which autoresponder suits your needs. Almost all will integrate with wordpress through a plug-in, and if you decide to set up a membership site make sure that the script works with the autoresponder.

    Overall stop treat aweber as an investment in your business rather than an expense.

      If you are looking for list building, then Aweber is the only reputed name online (along with GetResponse).

      The problem is that once you have collected leads from somewhere (say free forms, wordpress plugins), then the problem is that you won't be able to export it to other paid services without proper and tedious verification of opt ins.

        Hi!

        Thanks for the responses so far, great information.
        I have to admit, the free Wordpress plugin is a bit clunky - that's not a problem, as I haven't had anyone sign up yet
        I will take a look at the suggested threads, and read a little more, then quite probably sign up, on the trial offer.
        I am not against paying for good services, however until I start getting regular traffic, my sites are not going to get subscribers, and I wanted to avoid wasting cash flow, if there is a better opportunity for it.
        I can however see that lists are the lifeblood of IM, so a good tool to support it is the way to go.

      With AWeber it is important to make sure your list is good. You will most likely want to build your own list to ensure they are opt-in and won't cause you any problems later. Purchased data can give you higher spam scores which will cause AWeber to suspend your account.
