Order of Importance?

I'm trying to get a gameplan in gear here - I wanted to ask some suggestions though before I solidified my plans....

This is what I believe my order of importance should be, but please rearrange if you feel I should focus my energies in a different order:

1. Discover a market I'd be interested in 'working in/for'
2. Browse for a well converting product within that market/niche that I can promote as an affiliate
3. Do Keyword Research and competition analysis
4. Find a domain name for one of these keywords
5. Get my site built (I'll be focusing on building my site around this niche/keywords - though mostly promoting my email opt-in list)
6. In accordance with #5 - insert content, seo, and my incentivized email opt-in onto my site
7. From here on out - focus solely on marketing and promotion, testing and tweaking.

Is this about right? Somewhere in the ballpark - this is like a rough-draft blueprint.

Any suggestions, comments, concerns - or words of encouragement? :p

Thanks guys - means alot!

For the record - I've actually worked up to number 3. I have chosen my niche/market, chosen the product I'd like to promote, and have a HUGE list of keywords....haven't made it yet to step #4 tho =/

Step 2.5 - Be willing to change markets if you can't find a product that you think will work for you.

You don't need a domain for a keyword, try getting a domain with a word or phrase in your broad market. And if you can't get that, get a domain anyway, just don't spend a lot of time trying to find a domain with an exact match keyword in it

Building the site is one of the last things you do of course so you are on the right track.

You can and should place your keywords directly into Google Search. Use an SEO Pluin for Firefox to help you figure out which sites are ranking and make that part of your competition analysis.

This is work, but worth it. Set up a spreadsheet to keep track of things. This will help you week out the keywords that are not worth investing in.

I like Brad Callen's SEO Elite to do the competitive research part... but you can do it by hand as well... just a little more time.

And before you invest in building out your site you can also set up a basic SHELL WordPress site.... don't worry about graphics or the "pretty". Then build a few links back to it... and wait while you work on an existing site. See if you start to rank. See where your traffic comes from. Then build it out as it becomes promising.

I always have sites in a state of "aging" and testing. Work on the money sites, come back to these as they "mature".

#7 is really what you do from the start... you just implement what you have PLANNED more aggressively.

In any case the right track always starts with figuring out who the customer is and how you can profit from their wants/needs.

And don't over look other sources of traffic. I have a lot of sites... I'll sometimes create my own ads and push them across the network to see if I can generate interest from existing niches to the new one.

Thanks for the responses so far guys

Albeit, this isn't my first attempt at doing this - but it is my new and ONLY attempt at the moment. I have no other sites, and no other income, this is it.

Also, I wasn't going to invest in any keywords or things of that nature - my marketing attempts were going to be through article marketing, video marketing, etc. - I plan on driving traffic to my site and building my list (not rlly promoting products on my site) - my product promotion would be majorally through my list.

I'm kind've at a loss as to what I should do for my domain name, however..

I'd like to incorporate organic seo, so if I could get a domain name that helps with that (long-tail or not), that would be swell.

I'd like to keep it shorter-tailed, if I could - though I realize most everything shorter-tailed is already taken as .com's even if the competition for the keyword is low...

New questions on getting myself a domain name...

    Should I:

    - get a long-tailed keyword domain name as a .com?
    - get a (long or short-tailed) keyword domain as a .com, .net, or .info?
    - get a keyword domain that I can rank for (with low competition) AND as a .com - though if it is currently taken as .com, perhaps I could add a letter or a number to the end of it??

Thank you for any all responses, huge help!!!
