I have been assembling various inspirational quotes for the past several years. I now have quite a few quotes on a blogspot site, and it is starting to get a decent amount of traffic.

I'm thinking about buying my own domain and moving my site to a wordpress site. However, before I do that I was wondering if anyone knows the legality of posting quotes from talks and books online. They are mostly shorter quotes which are properly cited, but I'm just not sure if it will be worth it to put the time in if there is something illegal about it.

It is 100% legal as long as the proper person is getting the credit and you are not claiming it to be your own.

  make sure EVERY SINGLE one is cited or attributed to the author. really making sure you give credit to that person. there are alot of those books and content around.

I'm no lawyer, but if every quote has an attribution, then it would be no different to the loads of other similar sites/books already out there.

Like any other writing, giving proper credit to who said the quote is essential. Plagiarism can get you in deep legal trouble.

  I have numerous sites on quotes and here is what I do...
  
  Post mostly public domain quotes that are no longer under copyright and if you use anyone elses always credit them correctly.
  
  Has worked for me as I have never been in trouble and have many #1 rankings that would draw attention if I was doing it wrong. Hope that helps.

I think that not a big problem if the quotes you do stated that quote by then a link back to them . I'm sure they won't get you in trouble while they may thank you as well to help them promote and give them a backlink.

It's frustrating to come up with quotes and then have someone post them without accrediting them to you. Give credit where it due and cite the author

Quotes are definitely allowed, its everywhere! In motivational books especially! There are no trademarks over quotes!
