I have a competitor that is getting over 10 times more unique visitors than me according to compete.com...he doesn't rank for any good SEO terms and doesn't use adwords...so I wonder....where is his traffic coming from?

Anyone here have success in spying on competitors by subscribing to compete.com?

I can get it for $99 by using a coupon code but thats still alot of money if it isn't much better than what I can see for free at SEMrush.

  • DUH. Of course I realize all traffic doesn't come from search engines. That's why I'm asking whether or not compete.com will give me an accurate portrayal of referring sites etc.
  • All I know is that when I look at my site on compete.com, they're waaaay off.

    • Second that. I just checked a site that gets more traffic per day than they think it gets in a month. Their data methodology must include a few wild guesses.

No point in trying to base any kind of decisions on that kind of information.

  • I'm not trying to be funny or anything else.
The answer might sound obvious. Do it "Better" of what's he's doing.
Now, that will take work. Like most things you want and don't have.

  • When I think about Competitive Analysis (what I *think* you are talking about), Darryl Peddle comes to mind along with a webinar he gave for StomperNet members. He spoke for about 4 hours (non-stop) and went into detail on how to do competitive analysis and making a plan to beat your competitors.

After it was done, my eyes were glazed over from all the information that was presented. Now when I listen to it, I listen to the recording in bite sized chunks .

If you are serious, you could probably join StomperNet ($200/mo when I was a member) and get the webinar ... and a lot of other good information.

PS - That was an advanced webinar that assumed an appropriate SEO background.
