Having trouble finding a Niche

Hello, i am back and having another attempt at IM as it as been a passion of mine for a few years and i am convinced that it is the smart and lucrative way to earn a living as we all know the scope and audience is massive.....if done correctly.

But i am still working full time (Self employed Courier) and my intention is to work evenings and weekends to get this thing moving then ditch the day job but i struggle like mad on the main aspect and that is finding a niche so i can get cracking!
I have been guided towards a web site to get ideas and see trends then try and find a solution to these trends with a product from say Clickbank.
But i dont seem to be able to get any inspiration from it, has anyone any more ideas of how i can identify a trend / niche then find a product to solve the problem because as we know the best products do solve problems people have.

  • Sometimes you just gotta pick something and run with it.

    I remember making short lists of a dozen markets, niches and problems to think about over the next week and decide which to follow up. It'd usually take me more than a week to make my mind up.

    Instead if I'd just made a decision in like 30 minutes and run with it... two weeks later (instead of still thinking which niche to go with) I would have had a site up and been seeing results. Good or bad.

    If you pick a specific problem to address in one of the big dawg markets (health, wealth or relationships) then you can't go too far wrong. And, if it doesn't work out, you got results, experience and something to improve upon.

    No one can teach you that -- no matter how much you pay.

    • Yeah, very true. Selecting niches can take some serious time. There are proven niches out there with little competition. You just need to be decisive enough and wing it. One example is the Make Money Online niche. This niche is ultra competitive. But the demand is also super high. So, even if you are a newbie, you still can make money here as long as your offer is good.

  • Don't get sucked into the hype surrounded by building niche websites and stuff,, it takes ages and you need loads of time OR a team of odesk outsourcers just to keep things rolling, Instead get a squeeze page up... a nice freebie to give away, and build your list with paid traffic like solo ads... quick and easy and you'll have an asset that can pay you for life.

    • sorry i'm new to some terminology i understand everything but i am unsure on the "paid solos Ads" bit.......do you mean such as Google Adwords or just post the squeeze page address on topic related sights and forrums

  • A solo ad is a "solo mailing" that goes out to somebodies list. So lets say I had a list of 50,000 people.... you could pay me X amount, perhaps $250 and I would email my subscribers and tell them to check out your squeeze page, it would mean you'd be able to get loads of subscribers.

      Sometimes, you don't need a niche, you can just try to extract some solution from somebody else's faulty approach, make things better, more simpler and more effective.

  • Pick a demographic and then choose niches that appeal to that demographic. That way you begin to understand what that demo responds to and you can get in on other niches while marketing to the same people. If that makes sense.

    For example if you want to market to older men what's two things that demographic typically does. Let's say Golf and Fishing. So now you build your Golf site and you see what they respond to. You can now go and build a fishing site and use that knowledge as carry over and market tot he same people with the same techniques all over again.

  • There are tons of niches that you can enter and make money with. It doesn't have to be whatever is currently 'hot' right now. It's likely that you have at least some interests that you can find a profitable niche in.

    Write down absolutely everything you're interested in and look at which ones might be profitable. For example, I like writing, design and gaming (plus many other things). There are plenty of niches within those 3 things alone that I can explore and make money with. An example would be that I could sell article writing guides.

    I think that if you're in a niche that interests you, you're going to have a much easier time making money with it as you'll enjoy it more. Without that enjoyment, even in a more profitable niche, you may find it harder to make good money.
  • I think you should find not only a profitable niche but something that genuinely interests you. That will make it more fun and genuine.

    Try making a list of your favorite hobbies/things to do. That may help. Good luck!

    Lots of great advice already given. It is true that pretty much anything in this world is a niche. In fact, my business partner and I had a recent discussion about how literally ANYTHING can turn into a niche.

    To quote some of his thoughts and examples:

    "I have a friend who played video games. He loves it. He created a youtube video showing his joy for it. Now he makes $2,000+ month."

    "Another friend worked for a video production company. He took that knowledge and created a web series that got him sponsored."


    "Jorian is a stunt rider. He does it for fun. He took that to the next level and is now sponsored by large companies."


    "I created websites. I enjoyed it, so I created a service, which then turned into NO and then I took the knowledge from that and introduced NOU (with you)."


    "Shoemoney was looking for a background on his phone. He couldn't figure it out. So he taught himself, then created a simple guide for it. That turned into a multimillion dollar website."



    "Stephen worked for a company doing art. He took that and now he's starting his own online porfolio and business."


    It is important that you have interest in it (otherwise you will likely fizzle at some point with that project). It is also important that you genuinely want to provide help and give useful, valuable information to your audience.



    You could try writing down a list of things that you enjoy from hobbies, interests, products, and more. Do a brain dump and then sift through your ideas. Don't forget that you can also turn to the Amazon Bestsellers and EBay Pulse to give you ideas on top sellers or just show you what is currently trending in the market.

  • If you are having a hard time with finding niche, just write down things that you already love to do. If you say "I only like to watch TV." That is a niche also. Many entertainment blogs make a killing monthly from adsense.

    A cool niche finding method is to watch TV. There are always awesome products which sell great. Most people search for them in Google just to buy them. So you're gonna promote the product as an affiliate. There are many hungry buyers out there.
  • Start with your hobbies, and things you are passionate about, do keyword research and see if those niches are free. Its much easier to work if its a topic you genuinely care about.

      I hope some of this insight will be of help.

      The 1st thing to do is prepare your mind-set to accept that any niche you pick will usually have competition and that is a good sign because it is proving to you that there is a market. Our minds are just like plants - need good soil, plenty of sunshine, and clean water.

      Prepare the mind in order to treat your time like a business. Stop making yourself believe that cash and making $100k overnight will happen as soon as you pick that "shiny-bright-making-money-product." The people you hear about that have achieved financial success didn't happen overnight. It took patience, hard work, overcoming obstacles, and a new inner belief system that you can obtain success. Don't use their success stories to fake you out into believing it will happen in a couple of days. Leverage their success stories into building and sharing your own success through your wonderful work.

      Get this obstacle out of the way first which could prevent you from taking action.

      the game is all about taking action. Doing things that make you feel uncomfortable because it is a sign that you are growing. Your comfort zone is what prevents you from moving forward, most of the time.

      AFTER getting into the right frame-of-mind, bring a notepad and take a stroll through the mall or walmart. Follow your passion by perusing the aisles and look for products that are interesting to you. Jot down a couple that looks interesting. Use these products as a starting point and then do research on the products. Think about how you could solve a problem by using these products and build your niche around it. Use a mind-mapping tool to brainstorm the idea. Remember, your niche should solve problems in the customers mind and no matter how off-beat or weird or nonsensical you believe your niche product is, you'll never know if you haven't tested it out yet. Take a leap of faith and move forward. The worst thing that could happen to you is that you have gained a valuable skill in product creation and networked with the right people to jumpstart towards your dream.

      Then make the idea that was once invisible into the visible by hiring the awesome talent on the warrior forum to help you move forward.
  • After ucnovering and operating multiple online busineses in 4 niches (and counting) - our process looks like this:

    1. We start with a topic related to an interest, experience or passion we have (my first two sites leveraged my own interests, next two were done with partners around their interests). Ideally you start with 6-8 potential niches (music, gaming, personal battle with weight loss, anxiety, stress, relationship challenges you have overcome, etc...)

    2. You want to then narrow that list to one (to start with) by looking at a combination of search demand, competition and commercial potential

    - Search demand simply means keyword research and making sure that you find enough keywords to provide several thousand (at least) searches each month
    - Competition - here you look at sites ranked in the top 10 for your keywords, now this gets a little technical, but you want to look at age of domain, keyword targeting, size of site, etc...to see if you can break into the top listings
    - Want to know your options for monetization, are others spending money on ads (if they are, chances are they are making money), what are they selling? What commissions can you earn or price can you set for your own product?

    3. Build a site (I prefer blogs) structuring them around content and monetization - generate your content, do some basic backlinking and watch your profits grow.

    If you do #1 and #2 correctly, then taking consistent action on #3 will pay off.

  • The best niche is one that has high demand and little supply of course! The Google keyword tool can help with this. Other things like market samurai and niche finder are also good for finding this type of niche.

      1. Not all demand is created equal, so knowing "how much" demand is enough and knowing the difference between demand that is likely non-commercial versus demand that is associated with commercial searching is a BIG factor in assessing, and then capturing, profits from your customers

      2. The qty of supply doesn't matter so much as the quality. Having 1 Million websites, some offering similar or even the same products ONLY matters if the top sites cannot be toppled. This takes some SEO knowledge as well as an understanding of affiliate marketing to know who is leading and why. I personally love to enter competitive markets IF I know that I have a reasonable chance of out-marketing the top guys - because that means allot more money in my pocket.

  • You can try using anything from craiglist to newspapers and DMOZ to get some ideas. Other than that Google Keyword Tool is your friend!

    There are still a lot of profitable niches, I'd keep my eye on:
    - search volume
    - CPC/profitability
    - light competition

    You need some imagination and yes, a lot of time.

    I am new to the Adsense Hustle.

    What I can tell you is that the GRWA Niche is real crowded. (Thats Get. Rich. With. Adsense).

    Thats why I had my doubts about creating my newest and first E-Book

    It is still in outline form. But It is a

    I got a decent chunk of it composed in my mind. And I tossed up an outline here. THe response was with a capital

  • Wow.......that lot has given me headache.......whats great advice to work with.
    Just on the subject of interests and linking them to niches........I love cycling......do you think there is any scope in this subject and if so were should i start?
    I have looked at Clickbank and there are no real descent interesting products and i am not in a position to get involved with writing yet.
    So were do i go from here if the Cycling niche is viable

    • In the cycling space, I would certainly think about setting up an affiliate site selling niche cycling equipment (My wife is heavy into cycling and I KNOW she spends a small fortune on shoes, clothes, etc...)

      As far as infoproducts - CLickbank is actually fairly narrow in the topics that tend to get sold

      You can also look at Amazon (look for sales rank of books around your niche), directories like eBooks.com: Buy Fiction, Non-Fiction, and Textbooks Online

      Or just do a Google search for "Cycling Ebooks" and see what comes up.

  • Funny I just listed a WSOP with thousands of problems people are having

    But actually Cycling is a decent niche, what I would do is list down some problems You are having. Like which are the best tires what are the most beautiful places to go to and write about that. Or You can visit cycling forums and see what questions people have and try to solve those. Those forums are also great place to get traffic from.

    The only thing I don't like about such niches is that Your targeted audience loves to spend their time outside not in front of the computer But that's not a big deal.

    • This is actually a very lucrative niche because of the nearly ubiquitous interest for all ages and price ranges. Especially this time of year shoppers are buying bicycles, related equipment, accessories, supplies, and cycling-related books at record levels. Amazon has a wide array - hundreds of thousands of products for this niche.

  • I would make a list of things you enjoy, and then do a Google search with your theme and add forums on the end( eg.dog training forums ),this will give you an indication whether or not your niche will have any longevity by the amount of forums, hope this helps

  • Here's my take.

    Have a look at what reputable PLR sellers are marketing, they usually have done a fair bit of keyword and niche research before creating PLR products so once you've identified a few niches, do some research of your own to see if it is profitable or not.
  • Niche marketing not only can make you money but it is a way to rise in search engines results pages. You should also consider the things you are passionate or love to do.
  • I find that these days when I am looking for niche markets I go on godaddy.com auctions look at domains of 10 years and older and then see which ones are available.

    It then gives you some really good fresh ideas that you can use in your business and you can then research how good that keyword is once you see a domain that you like.

  • Start with your own interest and search it in google. See if other people are also trying to search for it.
  • Whatever niche you do settle on, the advice to start a list building
    effort is something to keep in mind. As you develop a list with different
    techniques you will then start to see a real monetary benefit.
    There are many excellent WSOs that will give you the techniques and
    point out the resources you can use to be successful in your efforts.

    • OK guys i think i have finally settled on Niche: Cycling!

      tell me if you think i am mad getting involved in this niche as it is very competetive or what?

      With being a newbie to this sort of thing i have decided to use Wordpress linked with GoDaddy hosting for the site.
      I plan initially to ply it with various Afilliate links from the various sporting shops that offer relevant products together with informative articles. I also intend to put on there a few click bank etc offerings to help with revenue.

      Once it has been placed by google i can then start building links to try and build a list

      Does any of this make any sense and can anyone give me any pointers please, the site that i have in mind will emulate this one (even though this is a massive site) but it will give you an idea were im coming from i hope:

  • just use your imagination, dont copy someone elses idea. I had a cctv company and did it for 6 years selling then one day someone asked me how to install, next thing I know i was teaching cctv classes. Go outside the box!

    • Great point Jossk makes, a good place to start is with your own inspiration, experiences, passions and challenges you have overcome.

      For example, a coaching client we had started down the road to writing an ebook about a topic he "thought" would be a success because he saw other successful ebooks on the market...then halfway through he changed gears and instead began writing about how he was losing weight (he would eventually lose 40+lbs). That ebook now makes him great money, he owns the entire product and revenue line, he can turn it into additional revenue streams (coaching, membership site, additional products) and he is happier than ever.

      Another example, I was just reading a story about a Mom who was inspired to write her book about her autistic son who became valedictorian and how she helped him (and how he helped himself) for all of the other parents struggling with similar situations.

      It doesn't have to be anything this dramatic, we all learn things, overcome things and experience things that will help other people. Consider these areas first.
