a question for experienced email list building marketers

i never had a email list before, but i`m starting a new website and i`m thinking to create one.
i just wanted to know what`s your conversion when sending a email?
does usually people read it? how many of them will buy the product that you recommend?
i know that there isn`t a specific number, but you can tell me what was your lowest conversion, and your highest.

    I think conversions is a tough thing to narrow down- it is based on your niche and how you get your list members. You can grab a ton of list members but if they are not targeted they will not convert- but if you target the list building a small list can convert real well. The standard for measuring is one dollar for every list member per month. But many do better and lots do worse. I know warriors who have deleted large list because they were not targeted correctly and never converted. Each email send would return useless questions and sale solicitations. Hope this is helpful.
