Want to build a review site-how much?

Based on an idea I read from Jan Roos, I am thinking of creating a niche review site with a travel related theme, perhaps a destination or a cruise theme, monetized by using Adsense. The review site would be an alternative to people using Tripadvisor. I am an absolute beginner in Internet marketing, and I would like to have someone build such a site for me. Can anyone tell me how much I would expect to pay to have someone build such a site? I don't want to get "taken".

Why don't you look at websites that offer the service you are planning? That will give you an idea how complex the site will have to be.

Next, check out sites that offer site building packages. Compare half a dozen. That will give you an idea of the approximate market price for the site you envisage.

    Best of luck

Why not treat this as a great educational experience? Buy an appropriate domain name, get some hosting and install Wordpress. The are many excellent travel related WP themes available (both free and premium), and the learning experience will stand you in good stead for any future niches you may want to get into.

Why don't you do the keyword research and check the competition before spending money on the domain, When I started with IM, I had the same idea as u did but I came to the conclusion that the Travel niche is a hard niche.. so much competition so I decided not to go with it, to be able to offer what tripadvisor offers, you need a huge chunk of money.. but you mentioned that you will do a review site and use Adsense..

Not trying to discourage you but you mentioned you are new to IM so I would suggest you do the keyword research and decide

I'd also not recommend you choose the travel niche as your first try. It is one of the most competitive niches in the world, and the major sites have monopolized most of the traffic, leaving little for new upcoming websites. You don't want to get discouraged on your first IM venture.

To answer your question, you can get various prices for the same kind of website depending on who does it. The price can vary considerably based on whether you will outsource the work to someone or find someone in your locality to do it. I'd suggest you consult as many individuals and teams as you can, and then figure out what a fair price is, in relation to the qualifications of the person designing it.

Why Adsense? I advise you look for affiliate offers to promote. Adsense is a terrible and inefficient money making strategy.

You are a newby but we all have to start learning sometime.
When I started learning to build websites and coding, I think AOL was the only major search engine. We couldnt just google or youtube to find out something. Everything was pretty much trial and error.
Today you have a vast array of help on the net. You can also use a review script which will do most the work for you and trust me you have plenty to choose from.
Just do it. Great day to start learning something new don't you think.

I wouldn't touch the travel niche either as TripAdvisor and other very big travel sites really dominate. That being said, personal travel blogs where the writer writes about places they have traveled are often very popular and well worth a shot if you love travel.

You could do the research and learn about hot travel spots and write in depth stories about the places and monetize with Adsense.

As some others have said, there are a lot of big, dominant players in this field.

So unless you have a compelling way to make yours stand out from theirs, it will be difficult to succeed.
