Fun E-mail List Strategy To Boost Sales

Helloooooo Warriors!

I've been playing around with this awesome strategy to boost sales with one of my e-mail lists. It's quite simple, and some of you probably already do this, but I just thought I would share for the ones of you who could benefit.

Just so you understand where I'm coming from, I pretty much exclusively make my own products, and then sell them to my e-mail lists. I'm also constantly building my e-mail list with targeted traffic.

Note: This strategy isn't really going to go into building lists, or driving traffic, or any of that fun stuff. There's plenty of info on the Warrior Forum if that's what you're looking for. Onward!...

The Rundown

So whenever I create a new product, I usually create three products at the same time. These three products need to have to do with each other, and it's best if one can easily transition into the other.

I'll make a free product like a report, or a video, etc. This is the bribe that we all put on our squeeze pages in exchange for an opt-in.

I'll create a larger product, or an expanded version of the free product. This is my one time offer that is on the thank you page after they opt-in. It won't be very expensive, anywhere between $7 to $27 depending what exactly the product is. I will usually make some profit off of the one time offer, but my overall goal of the one time offer is to cover the expenses of PPC and other traffic methods I use.

Lastly, I make the big product. Usually a video training course of some kind. This is a product that costs anywhere from $97 to $497. It just depends on the product and what I think I can get my customers to spend. I might have a one time offer on this one too. I don't like that you HAVE to buy the one time offer to get the rest of the course. The course should be 100% complete, in that it's all the customer needs as a solution to their problem. If I did a one time offer for this it would just be bonus material that would help the customer solve their problem faster, or easier. For example, one of my niches is the internet marketing niche. If I create say a series of videos on how to write your own ebook, then as a one time offer they could buy a collection of ebook templates. Stuff like that.

So, none of that is the strategy I'm talking about, that's just the basic rundown of what I do.

The Strategy

So here's what I like to do after I've created my three products and have all the pages set up. Before I start driving PPC traffic to the new free product, I will drip feed that product to my e-mail list.

I mean, everyone here knows they should be giving free, and highly valuable information to their lists all of the time anyway, right? Right. But, since you're giving a product away to new prospects, why not break that free product up into three or four segments and send it to your list every other day. It's like killing two birds with one stone. You are getting more than one use out of that free product.

Now after they've gotten those emails, sharing some good info with them, then you send them another email. In this email you tell them that you made this other product that you think they would like. Tell them that it is intended to be a one time offer only to be bought after someone has bought something else, but that you liked the product so much you wanted all of them to have a chance to get it. You can even give it to them at a discount if you want.

Because you've given them some great information with the first stuff, it has them primed for the newer products. Your conversions should be much higher than if you just randomly sent them the offer. Now they have this slightly larger product, and if you did a good job on that they will probably be really happy.

So, you wait another day or two and you send them another email. This one basically says, "Wow, that last offer got such a huge response. I'm so glad you guys all loved it. I've been getting a lot of positive feedback on it. If you guys really like this, then you need to check out this video course I've been working on. Here's the details..." So you send them the offer for the final product.

You see, a lot of people will just make the big product, then just tell their list to buy it. Your sales conversions won't be that high doing it this way. If you "launch" this series of products to your list just like you would run someone through a sales funnel, you will get a lot of extra sales out of your existing list.

Really, this is all marketing 101, and I'm sure a lot of you guys are already doing this kind of thing. My point is, when making products, or a series of products, think about the different target audiences. You can get multiple uses out of the same products, saving you time and energy. You can use a free product both to build your list, and to prep your existing list for an offer.

I will run this email sequence before sending traffic to the new squeeze page. The reason for that is that I don't want someone who just joined my list to get the exact same information that they just downloaded.

So there it is. Nothing huge. I just noticed when I started doing things in this order it saved me time (because that's less free helpful tips I had to come up with for my list),and improved my sales with anyone currently on my list. Like I said, the trick is to just make sure the products are directly relate to each other and each one leads into the next one.

To your success!
-Steve

Haha, thanks Diana. I've been around. I wish I could spend more time on here, but I'm usually just so busy. Don't get me wrong, I love it here! It's just too easy for me to get sucked in for half a day without getting any work done. I just like to pop on for a few minutes here and there.

Thanks Steve. It sounds quite simple, but I know it isn't. The main thing is to offer quality stuff - a lot of people fail there.

Yes, it's not as simple as I made it sound, of course. Just trying to give a basic outline.

Honestly I spend 80% of my time creating new products. Marketing is just such a small part of my job. For me, focusing on making quality products is the key to long term success. That, and I'm just a creative person, I like to make things. I especially love putting that 70k art school education to good use. I design my own graphics, templates, sites, stuff like that.

    Hello Steve,

You presented a very informative post that I'm sure many Warriors will appreciate. Some of the earlier steps you mention prior to offering the "big product" sound very much like pre-selling, which is always something that is very desirable to do! Knowing your target audience makes a big difference in how you market to them as well.

Thanks again for some great, actionable information.

Exactly, I pre-sell everything. It's such a small effort to make such a big difference. The only difference lately is that I've been overlapping my free product between my original list and any new prospects. Once I realized to do that, it just seemed like a waste not to. Haha.

So basically my whole post could have been summed up with:

"Before sending traffic to a new free product, give it to your current subscribers and then pitch them something."

Guess there was no reason for the long-winded post. Haha.

Great strategy Steve. I can see this working real well for me. The only difference is that I dont have money for ppc so I'll likly be going after seo traffic until I can move some money around.

Yeah, that's completely understandable. That's why I almost always have a one time offer with a free product. Even though you need a little bit of money to start a PPC campaign, you don't need a lot because the one time offer sales starts paying for it.

Do a quick search online and I'm sure you could find a google adwords voucher for anywhere between 50 and 100 bucks. I see them all of the time. If you made a couple one time offer sells then you have money to keep going. Make sense?
