Lead gen through competitions?

Hi,

I have had a home improvement company ask me about generating leads for them through a website I own.

I am thinking of ways of doing this an was thinking of getting them to offer up a prize to enter a competition. We would then provide them with all the contacts from entries where they can contact all the contacts who didn't win the competition and offer them a discount as runner up.

What do you think if this? Would the lead quality be good? Would the runner ups even remember they entered the competition?

Interested in all your thoughts and possible ways of improving this.

Thanks guys!

I think that very brilliant idea. The traffic must be targeted. Just find CPA offer for your teaser slogan maybe.

The contest angle definitely works. Many years ago I was a telemarketer working for a company that installed ADT security systems. 99% of the leads came from kiosks in shopping malls where people signed up to win "a free security system worth $999" or whatever. Everyone was a winner - the only catch was they had to signup for the monthly monitoring service. These days everyone gives away the systems for free, same with phones, etc. but back then it was a novel ideal and it worked really well.

Anyway sorry for rambling. The short answer is that yeah a contest can definitely work. Personally what I would do is make it for X amount of any work that they might need, and when they enter have them tell you what they would use the money for if they win, what is their next home improvement project they want to do, etc. That way when they get called the person can reference that they said they're interested in redoing their bathroom or whatever, and they will definitely remember the contest then.

Do SEO for the site so that it will be exposed in the internet.

Well if it helps, I've entered ridiculous amounts of information for contests, so I think it is a great idea.

Thanks a million for the responses guys.

I think the idea of offering a certain amount towards their project is a good idea because only people actually planning a project will enter. If I offer something like a free bathroom re-fit then anyone would enter but may not be actual interested I'm spending money on a re-fit. That would mean bad lead quality.

Anyway thanks again guys and keep the suggestions coming!

      Hi,

You should look into Adwords. Use long-tail keywords to really target your leads and to get a low cost Adwords campaign.

For example: If the business you are get leads for is plumbing. If use use the keyword plumbing, it could cost your several dollars per click for that keyword and it's saturated. If you use a long-tail keywords like, plumbing in Cleveland, OH your cost could drop down to $.30 - $.60 per click and you would really get targeted leads in the Cleveland area.

I hope this makes sense... the longer the keywords the more targeted your leads will be.

Quality might not be good unless its targeted to people who want that specific kind of prize.
