Which Host to Use for Small Membership Site?

INTERNET MARKETING

Anyone here run a membership site? Can you suggest a good reliable host to use for a small membership site?

Some details about the membership site:
Initially there may be 30-100 members.

There should be room to grow in case number of members goes up or if a second membership site is added in the future.

all videos will be hosted on amazon s3.

Should I be looking at using a VPS? I was thinking about using the HostGator $19 a month intro VPS plan they have; any comments on this?

Yes, agreed. You might as well start with an excellent host right from the get-go.

I had a lot of hosting issues in my early years by naively choosing a couple of crappola hosting solutions ..

Hostgator is as good as it gets. Support rocks...uptime is phenomenal.

Only if you don't want your members leaving you because your shared hosting has been brought down too many times by the yahoos running garbage plug-ins and nonstop cron jobs. A VPS isn't a perfect solution either, but much better than shared in nearly every case.

I like GoDaddys new deticated Wordpress hosting package........ unlimited data etc

Put as much or as little on it in any way you choose.

I recommend host gator to all my clients. There are a lot of coupons everywhere on the net and you can even get your first month for free.

Here's another vote for HostGator's Baby Plan shared hosting package: affordable, reliable, 24/7 live chat with tech support, etc. I've used them even for websites receiving quite some traffic and never had a problem.

I actually have alot of my major monthly income coming from monthly membership sites.

They are killer!!!

I use optimize press with the paid version of S2member backing it up. It seems to work for me and hardly any hitches along the way.

Any large videos always go on the amazon site yes.

I wouldn't choose that option. The $19 plan is not fully-managed and has no control panel. Instead I'd say get the $25 reseller plan for now, then later upgrade to the $39 managed VPS plan if needed.

I was in a similar dilemma some time ago, but dude... just go in for hostgator, you will never need anything else, I have seen it and I am telling you... they are the best, I have around 40 sites with huge traffic running on baby-croc plan, and they all work great. plus they have a rock solid support, simplest of problems, just shoot them a support ticket, within minutes (on an average) they will be replying with solutions... at max 2-3 hours...they are brilliant!

Use the coupon code 2012BESTHOST and you will be getting flat 25% off on your first bill, so I paid up 2 years upfront, and that money is well spent for the support I got.

I use inmotionhosting.com Excellent price, unlimited everything, multiple domains, and lots of other great features. I'm happy with it since I switched from my previous hosting. I can't believe what I was paying before compared to what I'm paying now. Should have done it sooner.
