Hey guys, if Aweber was requiring you to opt-in roughly 6000 former clients what strategies would you use?

1 use gmail to e-mail direct with the Aweber opt-in (using a prize as incentive for them to sign up) or would there be any advantage of sending that same Aweber opt-in from a service like mailchimp?

2 Given the list is around 6000, how many would you e-mail at a time so as to increase delivery and not get locked out of gmail?

3 Would you BCC from gmail or will this affect delivery in a big way?

4 How many variations of copy and headlines would you use?

So long story short, I just painstakingly pulled e-mail information from thousands of invoices from before I was using an opt-in. Aweber is requiring an opt-in to add them to my current list so now I have to figure out the best way to get an e-mail through to these former clients. I always provided a lot of value and very good customer service so I'm sure they'll be happy to hear from me. Just getting this information has been a long process and my brain is fried. A tip or two would be very welcome. Thanks

I don't have any brilliant Jedi advice on this.

But to my knowledge, iContact and ConstantContact prefer working with offline business owners, and both will allow you to direct import without confirmation.

I do know that Aweber hates that kind of thing, and will make you verify opt-ins to your list.

Can you get locked out of gmail? I never have? Also you may want to use a more sophisticated program compared to Aweber. If you provide a lot then things will work out its just the time. I think their is no shorter way of doing this unless on your site you make a follow by email button and when you look at your followers you can get emails.

You can get locked out of anything you do not personally own, even including services you are currently paying to use.

I'm only using Aweber about two times a quarter for simple contact. What am I missing that others have, and what's your preferred service? Back to the question of getting these old clients on to my new list, any tips on 1 - 4 in initial post?

I don't seem to have any delivery issues and I use Constant Contact. They do allow direct import without forcing confirmation, but be very careful. They are uber-strict if you get spam complaints above a very low minimum level.

Make it clear right at the beginning of the first email how you have their email and about the prior business relationship. That should reduce complaints to a minimum. And be very generous without even the hint of asking for anything in return in that first email.

    Good luck,
    John
