Facebook Advertising - What A Racket That Is.

Just a quick rant. I've been running a rather successful campaign for about 2 weeks now for a pretty obscure niche of targeted people. I CANNOT imagine that there would be hardly anyone targeting the same group.

In fact, when I began the campaign, I was blowing away this niche with a $0.09 max bid (per click). The suggested bid range was something like $0.04 - $0.09. Remarkably, in the span of two weeks, my sneaky little niche is now more expensive then the IM, dieting, or dating type niches. The suggested bid has skyrocketed to $0.36 - $0.54.

Evidently, they must artificially raise the bid amount over time to make more money or to keep you from advertising to the same groups for any extended period of time.

Facebook is the worst platform to advertise on it's full of bored teenagers, who are becoming increasingly internet savvy with every passing day. If you're a big brand it's ok, but for the average internet marketer who's running a tight ship it'll become increasingly hard.

I am not sure what your niche is, but sometimes they raise your bid, because of your conversion rate or a number of other factors. Were you have success with the campaign before they raised your CPC?

I would try running a slightly different campaign for a while and then come back to that one later and see if it has gone back down

I can understand your frustrations, but I think you need to remind yourself of exactly HOW CHEAP this really is. In the traditional business sector, (bricks and mortar) ...the thought of getting targeted customers for 36 cents per person would be a DREAM.

I just started to run some ads on FB and so far so good.

I have to agree 36¢ per targeted customer is cheap!

We'll see how it goes over the next couple days.

Thanks soooo much for everyone's comments.

I do understand that it is still relatively "cheap" considering the targeting capability. It just bothers me that it appears they artificially raise the cost overtime. If this were a popular niche, I would assume that I'm just competing against other IM'rs for the ad-space. But going from what they originally valued the target audience at ($0.09 max.) to arbiltrarily increasing that to over 5 times this amount just annoys me.

We have had great success with Facebook Ads. While conversions are so-so, our fan page LIKES have increased substantially giving us a greater social reach in a targeted niche. Even better, is since we broke 1k fans, we started to see the conversions and inquiries increase incredibly, as well as traffic to the site, and sign ups to our newsletter.
