Need Help - Micro Niche Site

Hello Warriors!
I am starting MNS and am not too good in building MNS. I need some information from you guys.

1. How to come up with a good keyword?
2. How many global searches should a keyword have?
3. Can Google Insights help me in selecting keyword? How?
4. How many articles (minimum) are required for an MNS?
5. What should be the keyword density in article and Article length?
6. Should I backlink to main site only or individual posts too?
7. Also, is it wise to put Newsletter Join popup on MNS?

I'll wait for your replies.
Thanks

Never ever wait for replies....that's wonderful time you could be using to start making money!

You can come up with good keywords from Google, Amazon, Trend sites, eBay Plus, and all that jazz...

But good keywords are useless unless you drive the traffic to them!

should help you out as well.

    Hope that helps!

    1. Look what's hot and what's selling at the moment if you're into physical product promotion; if you'd rather make money with digital products or adsense, find a problem many people share (like wanting to quit smoking or lose weight) and use that as your keyword
    2. Never look at "global searches". Always use "exact searches" when choosing a KW. Now, everyone has their idea on the subject; some saying they will go for KW below 500 search results... But, IMHO, it's a waste of your time to target any KW with less than 1000 results.
    4. No minimum. But I wouldn't go below 3 if I were you. Personally, I always aim for 5.
    5. KW density = not lower than 1%. Article length = 500 words minimum, but I've seen MUCH BETTER results with articles of 1000 words.
    6. Backlinks to the home page, and ALSO to individual pages. Remember, you're trying to rank for several KWs (each article, thus page, targeting one particular KW)

Thanks, that is a helpful reply.
Also, I am thinking to start a health and medical related blog. A main blog and separate each KW as a category and will treat each category as an MNS. What do you think about this.?

@barbling I'd read the links you've provided. Thanks

Can I just stress this before you get into this market, if you are not an expert, please don't offer any medical advice. If you do have a lovely doctarate and understand the subject fully and I mean fully then that is fine.

In all honesty if you are going to be building micro niche sites and your asking how to do it, medical is probably one of the better niches to avoid. Medical is constantly evolving and requires you to have a good knowledge in the field and lets face it, your information could play with other peoples lives. Lets not take away the fact that you will find it extremely hard to even get into this market. Focus on small time products like filament lamps or antique japaneese lamps, the idea of a small niche is to have minimum upkeep but still brings you in cash, not a full on website.

    1. You have to do proper keyword research. If you are short on budget, just use the Google Keyword Tool. If you have the money, invest in a keyword research tool such as Market Samurai or Micro Niche Finder. Analyze your target niche or market and find a keyword with low competition and a lot of traffic (searches per month). Also take into consideration the buying potential of the keyword - commerciality.

    2. Depends on your ambitions, really. Usually, the more traffic the more competition. Of course, there are many so-called "golden" keyword with a good ratio of traffic/competition, and those are the ones you should strive to find. If you are a beginner, I would say 3k exacts per month is good and worth the time and effort.

    3. Google Insights is great to see if the keyword you have chosen is still getting traffic. The Google Keyword Tool often shows skewed data (the traffic numbers are estimated averages over the last 12 months). So use Google Insights to see to it that the keyword you've chosen to target is really getting the traffic.

    4. 4-5 is a good start. Again, depends on the competition. If the first 5 spots are taken by sites with tens or even hundreds of articles, you will probably have to come up with even more to outrank them (or beat them drastically in terms of backlinks). Quality really matters, so try to come up with really high-quality articles, no rubbish.

    5. 2-4% is advisable. 4% is quite high, actually. Some people say 1.2%-2%. I would say 2% is a good standard. As for article length - If you are going to use Wordpress with a sticky post on the home page, make the sticky post at least 700 words long, 1000+ preferably. As for the articles, 500+ is fine. Of course, the more content the better.

    6. You should link to both. Depending on how many internal pages you have, You can link 30-70% to the home page and spread the rest among the internal pages.

    7. Wise… Hmm, you should test it first and if it produces good results, then it's wise. It's hard to tell in advance, you have to test it for yourself.

    Hope this helps!

If you are looking for ideas then studying Google trends might be the place to start. Not just to buy on a whim but to see if there are any trends starting that might develop "legs" as they say.

Google trends are really helpful. Google trends is connected directly into Google's search engine and tracks analytics on what people are actively searching for. Whenever a certain keyword phrase sees a huge increase in volume of searches in a very short period of time, it is said to be trending. There are a lot of reasons why search terms trend. Typically it happens because something newsworthy breaks with that topic and subsequently that subject gets covered in the news, on television, or on a social media site, you'll see it trending within Google's trends.

Going just for trending keywords may work in the short term, however if your goal is to build a lasting micro-niche site network then going with the trends may not work. The problem with using google trends is that something may be trending right now, does not mean it is popular a month from now, thats the point of a trend.

Creating a site that is always going to be useful is a better practice because the traffic will be more predictable and consistent. You will not have to worry about your keyword "trending downward".
