I'm Trying A Different Marketing Tactic - Will It Work?

I'm wanting to increase the traffic to my website blog, and have been trying to get bloggers to submit guest posts as a way to build my inventory of content, hoping that the content will attract traffic. Theory being that if the posts are on topic, then my audience will visit and read, and ultimately buy.

I have had a bit of difficulty using the normal channels, listing on guest blogger sites and newsletters. My opinion is that folks who see what my niche is feel like I am looking for technical advice from someone in the field.

My opinion is that a lot of what I am looking for is portable, from one niche to another. So, I put up a page, trying to explain what I'm looking for in a guest post and included a form where authors can submit their post.

In your opinion, is this an appropriate way to solicit guest posts, and where are some unconventional places where I could visit to start asking authors and bloggers for their submissions?

  • Looks like an innovative way to gain content for your site.

    You could always compensate guest bloggers for their posts if you find this method isn't providing you with the results that you're looking for.

  • Seriously man, you shouldn't ask if it's a good idea, you should just run with it. IM has be borne from the creative influence of very few people. Thinking laterally is part of the game.

    Well done for getting creative, but don't give people chance to put your ideas down, drive them through.

    • I'm offering compensation of a sort ... I'm allowing the author to include their AdSense code. The ad rotator is set so that they get 70% of the ad displays.

      I am actually doing it ... just looking for ideas about where to solicit guest posts. I've been thinking about trying to come up with a Craigslist ad, or a bunch of ads on classified ad sites. Any other ideas?

    • I'm a member there and was active many moons ago, but got zilch for results. I also use Cathy Stucker's http://bloggerlinkup.com/ and at HARO - Help a Reporter Out ™

      Neither have been especially productive for my niche, the bloggers don't seem to be able to translate their material into something an accountant can use. Marketing is marketing, but it helps if the industry lingo is played to a bit.

    The key to guest posting is finding people who do not compete with you yet have something to gain by reaching your visitors. In this context, I would go to people who provide software (and/or support) for the bookkeeping world. They are the ones who want to get their message out, and using your blog as their medium can really help spread their brand.

    In your case I would approach them directly through their sales department.

    If you really want to play it well then you can ask them to provide you with a page on their site that you can direct your visitors to where you get a small cut of the profits without it looking like an affiliate link.

    • I disagree if you offer guest posting embrace your competition you can learn a lot from them in many instances, also you can even start a joint venture with them.
