Anyone remember where and when you made your first dollar online, and how much was it, no matter how small?

  • Well, my first dollar online was a dollar.

It occurred using Adsense on my first website (geocities.com/twigman428@sbcglobal.net)

    • The first time I made money online was about 2 years ago selling a product I put together and sent out to my email list of Real Estate Investors (Only about 250 people at the time).

The product I was selling was priced at $300 and I only got 2 sales.

However, having $600 come into my Paypal account in less than an hour all because of an email I put together and blasted out to a list was amazing.

From that day on, I was hooked.

      Never looked back since then

Honestly, no. It was sooooo long ago!!
  • I made my first dollar online in 1998 selling Furby's on eBay, after that I was hooked.
  • I made my first dollar and sale selling a Clickbank product. I think its a lot tougher selling Clickbank products today.
  • I forgot about what it was.
  • my first dollar was by fiverr.com
  • On Sedo.com, where I successfully sold my first domain name for $200.
  • My first online earning was $15 from an article at Demand Media Studios.
  • My first sale online was for membership of the old Warrior Forum (when it cost, I think) $97 for lifetime membership. That must have been about 2001 sometime.

I remember I was sent a check for $25 commission, which, I never cashed because my bank (I'm in the UK) wanted to charge me a handling fee that was higher than the check's value!

Sadly I ended up losing that check - I wish I still had it to frame for my office wall!

    • Actually, my first dollar was $100 for writing. I'll never forget it because I was still quite new to IM and was having a difficult time trying to figure out what my "passion" was, to even go any further.

Then out of the blue, someone contacted me after reading my just for fun free blog that I never marketed, seo'd or anything. Heck I didn't even know what these were or how to do them.

Anyway, they told me they liked my writing style and asked me if I would write a few articles for them and the rest is history as they say.

  • My first dollar made online was a payment of $25 via paypal after a month of doing surveys and another month waiting for the payment to go through. I'm glad I've learned about internet marketing! lol
  • Im ashamed to say was from an adult site. - In my teens in the early 90's me and a friend dominated serps for a specific city and keyword "escort" . We referred calls to an agency and collected about 5k a week for almost 2 years before we decided it was a scummy biz model.

    • I have made my first dollar on working as a freelancer on oDesk.com as a forum poster and it was $2 spending one hour.
  • Made my first $1 selling images on ebay. lol.
  • As an affiliate selling Farmville items haha
  • My first $100 made online was on the Absolute Write water cooler. Nine years ago -- $100 for a short story. My first steady writing job online was in 2008 writing a review website. It's been a while since I thought about either of those though.

Edit: Forgot. I made my first money online by selling stuff on eBay. My first writing money was online too though -- nine years ago.

Another edit: Now that I think about it, technically my first money made online dates all the way back to the late 1980s when I was still in high school. I started a software publishing company and while I was selling everything via physical media, I did have a distributor in Germany who I found online (via a BBS or maybe it was CompuServe or Prodigy or possibly GENie -- I know it was one of those). Wow. Now I feel really old.

  • Thats an even more interesting question kiwiviktor81, How did you guys made your first 1000$)?
  • It was in the WSO forum. I can't remember how many I sold frankly. Someone started a brawl in the thread so it got closed down. I was pretty upset about it. I had some really good tips for beginners about ways to organize material, what free software there was for starting a business and how to use it, etc. I had a tech showing me step by step what to do and breaking it down to terms that a techno-moron like myself could use. I made the product because most techs don't realize how simplified newbies need things explained sometimes and what they think to be the simplest instructions can still be greek to someone new enough. I needed "click here" "click there" simplicity when I started. I wasn't just new online but to computers themselves.

Anyway - I put the personal story of my journey online with it. It wasn't the best product in the universe (it had been a long time since I'd written anything) but if someone was a real noob, especially a real broke noob, it would have helped them quite a bit and given them a little impetus to keep trying.

I'm trying to remember how much I made It was somewhere in the 2 - 300 buck range. I just feel bad because I think a lot of people bought it were way past the point of needing it. I hope they were able to use it in some way, such as to help explain "how to" things simply to their own customers.
  • My first dollar was winning a logo contest

  • Wayyyy wayyyyyy wayyyyyy before I even knew what Internet Marketing was...

I made a few bucks here and there sellin' stuff on eBay
  • Not very proud to admit it, but my first dollars online came from promoting AdultFriendFinder - my first check ever received in the mail from IM (around 50 bucks).

I have moved on to other things like Amazon, Clickbank, etc. although I still have 3 adult sites that get automatic updates (videos added on auto-post) and get a small amount of traffic. I just let them do their own thing and don`t promote them.
  • My first $'s cam from Squidoo and I still get monthly payments all these years later.

  • $0.40 with Amazon was my first sale. I was excited beyond belief, even though it was only for $0.40. :-)
  • Heh. I was extremely lucky in that back in 1998, I was in the right place at the right time with the right product and the right mentor who opened the right doors and hit the ground running with my Internet Recruiting Edge at $147 a copy.

    • Very impressive stuff, Barbara. You go way back!

My first buck was on eHow.com in 2007. Many people wrote articles on eHow as a stepping stone and later graduated to bigger and better things -- including Pat Flynn. Ah, them easy Google days...
  • I made $123.00 from Adult Friendfinder that was back in the late 90's I should have stuck with that niche

  • Oh yeah, I feel so good about. I joined IM June of 2013. Within weeks, I made my first 100% commission. It was my first residual income. I since have earned much more and learned a lot during my journey. The funny part is, I am still a student of IM today.
  • ebay/sneaker meet up those were the days
  • Yep, 90 dollars from a biz op I was promoting. Sent out a dirt cheap solo ad and made a couple of sales. I thought "this IM game is easy". Turned out a lot tougher thang I thought.
  • It was from Fiverr. The guy even made me do 30 articles for $15 which is dirt cheap.
  • i got my first $ by providing services to a friend of mine to in launching a product. made $400
  • Yes... at the time I was shooting and selling portraits of cats and dogs so I created a report on how to start a pet photography business and sold it on ebay for $27... Kept putting the price up every week until it reached $197.00 and sold hundreds at that price... Yanik Silver even mentioned me as a case study in his book "Moonlighting On The Internet".

    Cheers,
    SteveSki
  • Made my first $ from autosurf and then HYIP, lol
  • $20.00 in 1998 - the is the amount of the first sale I made of something called The Cookie Cutter Marketing System

Here is the ad I ran to market the Cookie Cutter, resulting in tens of thousands in sales after rolling out....

We ran that in thousands of ezines from 1998 to 2001 and sold countless copies at $20 a pop. It was a good run until the FTC shut it down as a "self replicating business model.

It was my first good run - and how I cut my teeth in direct response marketing.

  • My first $ was with adsense some while ago. I had created a travel information website and placed adsense ads on it. Later on (around 6 years ago), I developed a niche specific social network using Social Engine which made me a few bux until I left it unattended for a while and found it overloaded with spammers when I got back to it lol.
  • It was 1.08$ from Amazon, and I shared it here on WF, it was a great moment. Here is the link to that post.
  • My first earnings where nearly 1 $ from Adsense - i think it was in 2012 :-)
  • I started out 16 years ago, so my memory is quite faint, but i believe it was an adult sponsor that paid 20 cent per click, wich i used on some gaming website, and slapped up some meta tags, and got altavista love.

    • February 2008... Clickbank affiliate sale. It's crazy how I can remember that moment so clearly!
  • Yes I do. I think I got a couple of friends to click some of my ads lol.

Getting my first Google Adsense check when I was 17 (under my mothers name) was an amazing feeling I gave half the money to my mum and the rest was inspiration to keep going.

My first online income was on (coincidentally) freelancer.com (then getafreelancer.com)...don't remember exactly when, but it was around $30 that I made from a writing gig.

  • selling a mobile phone on Ebay in 2003
  • Yes, my first dollar online was made on the internet...
  • I remember my first dollar, it was my first clickbank check. I used ppc at that time.
  • Yup my first $1 was through a site on how to get girls. It was an adsense click LOL.
  • My first $5 was made in 1999 editing an article for the founder of e-Zinez, Kate Schultz. I went on to do a lot of writing and editing for Kate and many others back in those days - and for a lot more than $5 per article.
  • First thing was an internet service I promoted from my computer store website. Probably 1998 or 99...

    NetZero

When they first started out, they offered a one time, lifetime internet dialup service. I sold a ton of those. They called up our shop, and asked us to sell it, because we were well known in the capital district of NY at the time.

I got out of building computer systems in the beginning of 2001, right before it went to hell for every other system builder. Closed when it was still profitable. Started doing more programming, was able to make more sitting at home freelancing at the time.
  • It was from a game store affiliate program.
  • The first bit of money I remember making was $35 on a click bank product.
  • With Harvey Segal's Supertips. $10 Paypal.
  • I do remember. I made a $27 commission for an affiliate product I promoted by submitting articles to an article directory.

I haven't checked that site in a while, but I'm sure those articles are still floating around. I did actually write them myself, but at the time, it seemed like too much "work." Oops, there's that "nasty" four-letter word again. I'm starting to realize that word is actually my friend and the ultimate ticket to my success. Took a while, though.
  • My first dollar came from Adsense
  • clickbank <> list building. These go together like glue!! Once I worked it out I ramped up my efforts and literally with 2 warriors help, I quit my job 3 weeks later.
  • Passively my first dollar online came from Google AdSense monetisation on my YouTube vids
  • I can remember, it was 2007 and I was trying to make some money from online. After around 1 month of searching and browsing got Odesk. Joined there and started applying to jobs, after around 15 days I got my first job there and earned around $12. That was my first online earning. It was actually earning from freelancing.

Using my website, my first earning was on 2011 which actually means earning online.
