Bill was kidding, but that's a good point to make to folks who may not know it.

When you see something that violates the rules, please report it to the mods. That is often the only way we'll know it's there and be able to do anything about it.

Just click the red triangle at the bottom left of the post you're reporting, and fill in the text box explaining what you see as the problem. It doesn't have to be a long description in most cases. Just "Looks like link spam" or "affiliate link in signature" or "lots of one-liners" or whatever.

You can also get creative, if the urge strikes. One person here got my day started off with a laugh when she reported a cookie stuffer for "Magic picture spam."

    John,
    I like cookies.
Me too, but too many of them make my file system FAT.

Tell me about it, mine's apparently a size 32.

        Size 32 is quite slim.

You try walking into a clothing store and asking if they stock size NTFS.

For those of you who don't know what image cookie stuffing is...

Sometimes you'll see a new username, typically a very new poster and quite often their username will have numbers following their chosen name, for example: Gremlin4444 - although of course they'll use many different variations.

If you see a sudden influx of new posts, typically very short one liners appearing in any one section of the forum suddenly... click on their username to view their profile page. Then click on Statistics. Next click on Find All Posts...

Now as you look at their posts you might see a url address ending in .jpg

So click on that post by this username, do you see the corresponding image URL in their post? No you don't.

This is called image cookie stuffing. Someone else better qualified than I am might be able to explain precisely how this works if you are interested.

Now, on that persons post click on the little red triangle and in the window that pops up put something like this into that window...

This user is inserting image stuffing cookies into all of their posts.

It might be helpful to the moderators if you also include the direct link so the moderators can instantly view all of this persons posts.

Do this and the account the spammer is using will usually disappear in a jiffy.

          Best,

          Mark Andrews

I thought this was going to be a thread about some reformed cookie stuffer and how he saw the light and what he's doing now.

    I was really disappointed.
