My websites are hosted at JustHost. And it has been down for >30 hours and it is still not up. I'm very upset. All my review and adsense sites hosted there are down.

Anyway, because of this I went to search for website monitoring services available. And found this site offering free website uptime monitoring that I thought will be useful to share here.

BTW, does anyone have any idea if it is possible to have a "swing functionaliy" that if a visitor cannot access the site, it will automatically switch to another server... ?

  • I use an Andriod App, Server Monitor. That way anywhere I am, I can tell if something has gone bad.

    In your case, change providers. You should expect 99.99% uptime. There are technical solutions for failing over when servers go bad, but that should be the responsibility of your provider, not you.
  • In my experience is that things like this just happens sometimes. Every company has technical issues.

    The problem is when it becomes too often and the support you get is bad. Then you should know to switch to a better host.

    If you're getting too much traffic, it would be best to switch to a dedicated server in the long run.
  • Completely agree on need to use a website monitoring service. Constantly amazed how many people don't have one - if you care about your revenues or reputation then not knowing when your website is down seems business suicide to me!

    Anyway yes try StatusCake.com - StatusCake - Free Uptime Reporting - which has a "swing functionality" - i.e. if your website goes down as well as alerting you it can ping another URL to bring your back-up servers up.

    It's all free, and you can monitor and track an unlimited numbers of sites...
  • You can also use Google Docs for Uptime Monitoring, It's a great tool like other tools Google have
  • I like monitor.us (the free option still has a lot of features)
