I get good results from them and im not what you would call experienced at it and i get it through free press release sites

its good u cn get traffic form sites

In my experience yes for both on and offline

I have a music site that I send releases out to carefully selected press release and magazine sites.

The press releases I send are of real value i.e. no crapola

As a result I get inbound links, traffic and great SEO.
In addition to this my sites status amongst the music community of the genre I am in is greatly improved.

So in my view yes ... need to do proper research and target them well.
There is a simple layout that people should follow
Avoid trying to post pr which are essentially 'crapola' (my word of the day)

They absolutely work - BUT (yep a big but) they have to be written properly otherwise you will join the 95% that fail to get the coverage/traffic/links etc they want.
I could try and sell my course - but in the spirit of giving first I've put together a free email course on press release marketing - see the link in the sig.

Yes, they do - but I have not used Press Release in IM work. We have a freelancer who is v capable - we've used big agencies and it wasn't so effective. But it needs as much attention as to what youreally want to say - and you need a good hook.

Yes they can be EXTREMELY effective - but you need a story.
They can be free to distribute or you can pay for more coverage via sites like prweb.
I wouldn't do a launch without several press releases - then again as a previous editor I used to see plen of them.

I think they definitely work when used with other forms of traffic generation. I find that I get are great inbound links, good traffic generation in general and great SEO. Submissions to free sites are great becuase you can cut and paste, the submissions take a little longer with the free sources but press releases have the capacity to be around for at least 5 years, so I always make sure that web addresses on them are update as well contact information! The layout is simple, and its easier to submit that an article! Hope this helps!

My parents sent out a press packet recently: video, reviews, other newspaper articles, etc in regards to my father's book...they had tremendous success. My father is now doing speaking engagements all over the place because of it. Of course, considering that both of them were in the newspaper business themselves before retiring they knew what worked.

I think it's a matter of making them timely, interesting, (the manilla envelope is dead) and of course having a call to action...why the reporter needs to make a move NOW.

I use free press releases as 1 of many free marketing strategies and do get good traffic from them.

I never had any luck

I don't really know, I tried it once myself but does not seen a increase in traffic

Yes they work for getting the word out about your site
Yes they work for getting into in magazines
Yes they work for getting on the radio
Yes they work for getting on TV
Yes they work for getting on nationally syndicated programs

Can you do it for free?

Many of the things you want to do can be done with free press sites, those sites will not connect with some very valuable gate keepers, so the answer is No all the things you are wanting can't be done for free.

Skills have to be learned, and practiced for them to become effective.
Generating online interest is NOT the same as generating interest for radio, TV, newspapers, magazines and syndicated programs and columns.

Press releases work for sure, so I'd say yes. For webpage I get great a great result of inbound links and great SEO. I think you need to firstly do the proper research and target your press releases to your audience with enticing words and offering them something beneficial. The layout and structure is very important. Great sites to use though. My 2 cents!

In my experience, the PR distribution sites give me traffic but little media coverage. Also, some link popularity so they are worthwhile.

To get media coverage, I get to know editors and writers for major publications. I go out of my way to be helpful. It goes a long way for coverage.

I think they can be very effective when they are written properly in the correct format and with the right kind of content, similar to a quality written article. This always helps in generating a higher quality source of traffic, and more numbers. Andy's listing is fantastic for submission sites, thank you for that one - very useful!

Press releases has to be one of the best LINK AND TRAFFIC generating methods there is.

The difference is (and take note) you have to PAY for results!

Do NOT submit press releases to free accounts. It waists your time and the results are not as good. If you pay for a distribution package you are going to experience some serious traffic and backlinks.

Heck, I use a press release distribution package to kick a brand new site out of the mythical "sandbox" in a ZAP! PLUS I get a huuugggeee boost of traffic for quite some time.
