Why doesn't paypal have an 800 number?

Is this is the wrong forum?

Just wondering.

My cell phone plan only covers my state so it's long distance to call paypal and the last thing I want is a huge long distance bill talking to paypal-where I hear their customer support isn't that great so no telling how long I'll be on the phone with them.

I have to call to update my address and phone number for some reason. The one on file is like 4 years old and I tried to update it on their site but it won't let me because I don't have the same phone number.

I just thought a huge company like that would have an 800 number.

    • That's excellent just what i'm after nice one. I've been trying to close a paypal account down and they just keep telling me I can't until some transactions have gone through but I know there is nothing.

I've been all over there site and its like they make it as hard as possible for anyone to actually get in touch with them.

      thanks again, dink
  • In the UK, free (800) numbers are not free when called from a mobile phone.

Is that not the case in the USA?

  • It's the same in the USA, you use cell minutes when calling an 800#. And, btw, I have called paypal and it took forever to get help it was almost as bad as calling ebay! Just be prepared. Maybe you'll be luckier than I was.
  • I did not know they had an 800 number, I couldn't find it on their site. I just found their local number on the main page of their site. They should have it easier. I'm not so worried about cell minutes because I haven't gone over (yet). Ugh I'm dreading calling them.

    • Valerie, go to your nearest convenience store and buy a long-distance phone calling card for $5 or $10 -- then use that to make the call, from a land line if possible or even a pay phone. Or if you do have to use your cell phone for the call, it should be treated as a local call at least.
    • If they make it easier to contact, more people will call, and will cost them more money.

Atleast we have there 800# now!
  • Use Skype to make your fone call, (Much cheaper) I use it all the time if I need to call the US or abroad

    Cheers
