Raw Newbie Question

Hello all,

I know this is a basic question - but - I am going to ask anyways

I know that back links are links pointing to your site. Supposedly, the more links pointing to your site, the more you are an "authority" on the subject. The more you are an authority on the subject, the higher you get on the Google search page.

The thing I don't understand are the "free backlink generation" sites. I mean, what exactly is this doing?!? Who exactly is linking to your site when these back links are generated?

TIA

  • Once I used free backlink generator - I found my link on phpBB forums with lots of spam, most of them were built specially for those purposes - link posting. Also I found my link on some porno websites.

On my mind backlink posting should be done manually or by trusted person.
  • Personally I wouldn’t use a free back-link site. It sounds spammy to me & could do more harm than good. When dealing with large niche sites/blogs I feel it’s best to just provide a lot of well written quality content. If you do, your site will eventually get quality search engine traffic!

    I hope this helps!
  • I say stay away from free back links! Use the thread here where you and others can share links. It usually means that the other person you are dealing with is trying to maintain their quality as well.
  • These free backlinking sites have always been a grey area, but with the recent Panda and Penguin update these links have become a complete waste of your time (and perhaps will have detrimental effects to your website....although that argument has been debated from both sides).

Doing your links manually will have the greatest impact on your website. 10 links from relevant sources are much better than 1000 links from non-relevant sources.

    Take care,

    • In terms of backlinks, it's not just the number of links you have pointing back to your site. It's the quality.

If a high-authority site in the same niche points to your site, it's far more powerful than if you have some random spammy site pointing to your site.

The free backlink generators often create either forum links (from profiles) or in WHOIS-type directories.

They're not worth a great deal.

You're better off creating backlinks in a more ethical way, at high-quality sites in your niche.
  • Free Back linking sites are useless, Its better to built few but of quality.
  • I agree with what others have said about the free backlinking sites. I stay away from them. You would do much better to manually do them or pay someone who you trust to do it. If you pay someone ask for a spreadsheet of the sites that they placed links on. Also writing good content and submitting it is a good way to go for backlinks.
  • Stay away from free backlink sites man. They're going to do nothing but cause you a ton of trouble in the long run.

    • Totally agree. Stay away, I have seen so many sites that is being punished by google recently. You don't know where are these free backlinks coming from, so best is stay away.

Use legitimate way to build your backlinks. Its a lot of work, but it is very worthwhile. A few common ways, write article, guest posting (on related sites), post on directories.

  • Google's Penguin algorithm should be a wake up call to anyone using "artificial" methods to optimize search results. The more "natural" you keep it the better. Backlinks are just one part of the picture. If you are thinking about using free backlink generators then you probably are using or thinking of using tricks like keyword stuffing or article spinning.

Whatever you do...Don't use SEO techniques that over optimize your content. Those are exactly the type of sites that Google is going after with Penguin. Artifiical backlinking is one of the ways that Google identifies your site as a bad one. And then they will penalize you for it.
  • Hello all and thanks so much for the responses

I noticed that most of the replies were like these:

    >> On my mind backlink posting should be done manually

    >> Doing your links manually will have the greatest impact on your website. 10 links from relevant sources are much better than 1000 links from non-relevant sources.

How does one go about creating the links manually?

    TIA

    • 1. search for relevant blogs and leave a comment with a link back to your site
      2. place a link in your signature here on warrior forum
      3. guest blog with a link back to your site
      4. youtube videos with a link in the description
      5. Directory submissions
      6. classified listings
      7. article submissions
      8. Squidoo, Hubpages and other web 2.0 sites

      That should get you started.

      Take care,

      Kevin

  • nothing is achieved quickly and/or easily in this world and there's always a red flag for the things that are. let's leave it at that!
  • There are some good free backlinking services, but most aren't that good. These services use the easiest types of backlinks to create which are domain info, whois sites and directory sites.

Domain info and whois type of sites are just sites that are listing info about your sites and are usually not very high quality links, but they can help in getting your site indexed. Directory sites are kind of similar.

One thing to keep in mind is that the # of backlinks is not what makes your site an authority or not. You want to get high pr and high authority backlinks. 1 high page rank link can worth thousands of low quality links.

Anther huge factor in making your site an authority is the quality of the site and it's content. Some might even say that it's now even more important than backlinks.

    • Thanks again guys for all the help

So, when you go ahead and make these links, you use "anchor tags" and not the name of the website - right? I remember someone showing me the "hits" on search criteria on Google. They were showing me how "profitable" or "popular" a search term was.

Just to make it come full circle, one would create an "anchor tag" that is similar to a popular search criteria in Google?

      TIA

  • its totally a spam and google mark it as useless and it will destroy your site and because of google updates those days it really will kick your site down
try to read about the updates bro

    • I totally agree, the two last Google updates focus on those black hut back links.
Your sites back links have to be connected to your sites content. A lot of those free back links that being offered are posted in sites that Google knows about, when he see that you have those link on those sites your page rank will automatically go down. Try to create your own back links, write post on blogs like tumbler and blogger that are well connected to your site content. Use social networks too, they are great for back links.
      Good luck!
  • Focus on getting quality backlinks to your sites. Free tools are likely to get you a bunch of spammy, worthless backlinks.
