Well knock me down with a feather! - I'm expecting to pay for images

I am working on a new project which will require quite a few images of celebs, sports people and other people in the news. So I am expecting to pay for these images as the rights will be monitored closely.
But being a cheap skinflint I do not want to pay over the odds for each one. Has any warrior used these sort of images and what is your source.
Thank you in anticipation of your help

  • Ken, as a first step you might want to contact their agent/manager/publicist and ask if there are any photos available for publicity.

It might take a little networking, but you should be able to find their representation.

    • Good idea.

I recently looked at picking up stock photos on a particular celebrity on a project I was considering. I needed two pictures of the particular celebrity, and I found it was going to cost me $800 an image to get those pictures I wanted!!

Being the cheapskate that I am, I decided to put that project off until a later date.

  • Try istockphoto: iStock Photo: Royalty Free Stock Photography, Vector Art Images, Music & Video Stock Footage | iStock They have celebrity/sports figure images.

    • For the celebrity I was looking at, at iStockPhoto, I have options on 8 less than stellar photos at $75 to $200 an image.
  • I use PR Photos - Exclusive Celebrity Stock Photos For The Press! It costs me $10 for an image that I can use on websites/blogs. I only use them on a TVshow fansite that I have, so that works for me. Depending on what you need them for the cost might be higher though, way higher even for some licenses.

    • Maybe I need to select my celebs better....

The picture selection is much better, but the celebrity that I want is $605 per photo here....

Mind you that if I was just using this person on a website, it would only be $10, but if I used the image on a book, the licensing fee jumps to $605.
    • That's more like it. $10 ismuch nearer what I was looking at. Thank you for that most usefull link.

The people I will be focusing on may not be "A" list celebs. Some of them will be politicians and public "official" figures. I am hoping that their images will not be at the top end in terms of cost.

Thanks for the input so far

  • Yup, told you it could be way higher depending on what you needed it for. But the images are better then regular stockphoto sites have when it comes to celebrities, I think.

    • Thank you Kurt

That is a gem of a link

  • I have never used them but know that at $29 per image and over 4 million celeb images, Celebrity Pictures and Celebrity Photos | ImageCollect seems a good resource. Like I say, I have not used them but have used other sites owned by the parent company which are good!
