How to buy international photos

Hello everybody,

I am trying to purchase photos from a photographer in Belgium.
I am in USA and in want to make sure that I do it the right way.
This guy call himself for an amateur but he is good. I want to make sure that I purchase the rights, royalty free without facing issues in the future.

Can anyone tell me how to proceed in the best way?

Well...I think no one answered here because you outlined what you needed to do in your OP. You didn't realize it, but if you added a few more words and emailed that to the photographer, he or she would know what you wanted and could then deliver on it.

So you think an email agreement and paypal payment would be enough?
maybe i am over complicating it..

Make a contract, send it by e-mail, ask if he can print, scan and send it back as attachment, then you have a signed form, but then again, is it his signature, etc.

I think you will be fine and if you keep the payment details and the email, in most cases e-mails now are accepted as evidence. I myself use for legal purposes the readnotify.com website to have an independent source that can verify that my email was sent and read as I claim.

          I hope that helps you.

Make sure that when you are exchanging emails you mention about buying photos from him. This way when he make a fancy move claiming that you stole the photo, you can present documents and email history to Google.

Rudy's post was great, but he forgot one thing: Get both sides of the agreement notarized. You can do that at any bank in the US or any Post Office if I'm not mistaken. The photographer can figure out where to do this in his country.

You can also put up a private job for him on vWorker, where things are enforced by a third party. You'll pay a service fee, but it might make you feel a little better.

    Hello !

It is always possible to seek pictures from stock photos.
There are plenty in the web offering royalty free stock photos.

When that can't be done, provide a contract dictating that you are purchasing the photos from this guy and that you are to use the pictures at your disposal.

That should keep you protected and give you peace of mind from any copyright claims.

    Hope this helps.
