Hey everyone,

I was wondering if anyone here runs tech/science oriented blogs. I am in the process of setting one up, and I am noticing that the CPC with adsense would be horrifically low for most of the keywords that would be targeted. However, there are tons of low comp keywords in my niche and I think I might be able to offset the low CPC with volume.

Basically, just wanting to know if anyone here has taken this approach and if it has worked out? I.E. offsetting low CPC with volumes of content/traffic.

Thanks everyone!

If Adsense is your only ad option, that offset strategy doesn't work. However, if you want to do custom ad sponsorships and you run a multi-funnel list system to finetune your subniches, the project can definitely be profitable.

    Hi

The problem with sci/tech blogs and adsense is two-fold.

    1) As you have noticed, CPC is often very low.

    2) Sci/Tech users tend to be more "web savvy" and do not click on adsense ads as readily as other niches.

Depending on the subject of your blog other suggestions are:

Amazon affiliate links - Amazon does sell many sci/tech and industrial items. Many visitiors will click through to Amazon setting their cookie. After that you get credit for any sales in 24 hrs, even for unrelated products.

Other advertising platforms - there are other advertising platforms besides adsense that may be better for Sci/Tech. Some specialize in banner ads that may be more effective than what adsense throws up.

Other affiliate networks - There are other affiliate networks like Commission Junction that have partners like Best Buy, Wal-Mart and all sorts of other companies with offers. Look for companies with products related to your sci/tech niche.

CPA Offers - There are many of CPA networks with a wide variety of offers. You may find some suitable for your audience. In any case, many sci/tech geeks would be interested in a free ipad, free iphone or other new techie gadget that is often dangled for email submits. Also many online games like WOW, Diablo 3, the new Star Trek game, etc. have 'free trial' CPA offers that may appeal to the sci/tech/geek crowd.

The theme of the website will be news and current events, so I am not too sure how many of those offers will convert....

I guess I could do banners on the site and then cross test them, and keep whatever performs better.

Also, if i am able to get decent levels of traffic to the site, I could use Buy Sell Ads. I have never used them before but I have been browsing around on the site...seems promising. Does anyone have experience with Buy Sell Ads? Are there a decent number of buyers on there?
