Video 'drawing' tutorials...Is there a market?

I've got a great technical producer of videos. I haven't used him at all but today
a top internet marketer who knows I'm an illustrator told me I could make some
great money doing those 'drawing' demonstrations that shows what something is
or how something works.

You've probably seen them, they have a narration and someone uses a black
magic marker to draw simple cartoons showing what the narrator is talking about.

I've seen only a few of these in the IM field as now I know why. They cost a good
amount of money because only a few people can do them. It's brutally tough
work.

So I'm asking if there's a need for this in the IM industry even more? They really
sell a product but they seem to be out of reach for the average IMer.

I'm going to give it a shot on a new ebook I'm writing to add the vid in the ebook and on YouTube.

Here's somewhat of an example from former Sec. of Labor Rob Reich:

The Truth About the Economy - YouTube

I've asked my army of animators and comics people if they could do these and they screamed in agony. Seems to be pretty tough to do but I have fun. I know you big presenters use these so I'm just asking to figure out what to charge.

They aren't hard to do...Both Video Scribe and Corel Video Pro 5 have the ability to create video "scribes".

Corel has a 48 hour special where you an get Video Pro 5 for half off ($40). I posted a thread about it here:
    http://www.warriorforum.com/main-int...-software.html

Here's a couple of videos I made with Video Scribe:

Thanks, but I'm talking a bit more complex than those videos show.

You have to be able to tell a story not just use stock art already in
      the computer.

Planning and telling a story about the product is what it's all about.

That clarity is what makes the products so popular. If the customers
don't know what you're talking about why would they want to buy
      something?

Same thing happens in comics, movies, books. No storytelling means
no one knows what's going on.

I posted some basic examples. However, you are only limited by your skills and creativity and can just as easily "tell a story" using the resources I mentioned.

The question becomes more a matter of having a "perfect" video that costs thousands of dollars to produce, or a very good video that costs very little to produce, and spend the money saved on promotion or add it to the bottom line.

Many of the most profitable videos have low production costs and being able to signifigantly lower your own production costs is something your customers may want.

Do you pay a big budget? Are you happy with the results?

I always buy videos for product presentations and website introductions.
Prices range depends on length and the difficulty to create the video.
But recently, I mostly order fiver gigs...

I've seen the low cost videos. They look like low cost videos.

A person making $5k with a low cost video might be happy but they could
have made much more with more quality content.

Quality leads to success, not just getting by. I understand the low budget IMer
route though and that's a nifty resource bud.

Any data to back this up?

I haven't tested it personally, but I have read IMers with enough money to do either claim that their low budget videos out perform their fancy higher cost videos.

High cost doesn't mean better quality, however you get what you pay for. You go to bottom of the barrel talent and you run a higher chance of getting bottom of the barrel. You go to overhyped expensive guy who doesn't show quality and that's what you get.

Yes. Was just pointing to it as an example to show that evidently there is a market for such things.

    Greg,

Why not put together a small and simple version of what you can do for a product and send out a link to that to some marketers. Maybe you could pick an existing product, tell its story and send it to the creator of the product for free.

Maybe they could give you some stats about conversions with your video v/s what they already use.

That would get you some exposure, and also show you if there's a market.

If not, you have one wasted video. I know it must be quite a bit of effort to make it, but that would tell you if there really IS a market which you can then capture.

Thanks Varnita and that's what I have planned. Am doing a video for my ebook and a demo. I'm really lucky to have the video expert I have. He actually used to work for one of the major marketing people ever but just did not get IM at all. I've been dragging him kicking and screaming into IM and today he agreed. Guess it was the right thing. Normally he makes video action web series and I can't figure out how he gets all the people he gets to be involved.
