I was curious to know what type of payment processing people here used when selling their own products. I would assume PayPal but am hoping this is not the case. There is just something about PayPal that gives me a very uneasy feeling, especially all the problems with randomly freezing funds which I've read a lot about in the media.

It depends what your product is, and at whom it's aimed.

Many marketers simply need to be able to sell their products by PayPal because they have so many potential customers who can't buy it any other way. Not having that facility available for potential customers, one way or another, can be hugely limiting.

That's part of the reason why services like ClickBank, Plimus and 2Checkout do well: because customers can pay those networks for the product by PayPal without the vendor/merchant needing to use a PayPal account to collect that money.

So I would take it that it goes without saying that PayPal would be better than Google Checkout?

I use ejunkie and offer Paypal, Merchant Account, and Google Checkout. I sell to younger people (usually under 25) so Paypal is their preferred choice, then a credit card, and then Google Checkout a distant third.

Well, that's not entirely true. There are still a good number of countries that don't accept PayPal at all. It's not the best solution for them. There are other countries where PayPal enacts some weird policies (I believe there is some stipulation in India involving either transferring money out of or into their bank accounts every single day. I'm not sure of the details) making it a less than ideal solution for them.

It's subjective. For you and me, it's the best solution. I have never had a single problem with them (I'll assume the same for you) and my money is easy to manage and access. Other people have gotten the short end of the stick from them on top of the above mentioned reasons (although not always PayPal's fault).
