Best way to entice people to join membership site?

What do you guys think is the best way to entice people to join your membership site?

1. Offer free 5 to 7 day course
2. Offer free report or guide
3. Content drip
4. other

    I have done a free video series and a free written report.

    I don't do content drip, I think that might be more a feature rather than a benefit, nothing wrong with it, I just don't know if it is a selling point to get people to join.

    Both the video series and the report work equally well, so far. I do have an autoresponder series in place and automatic move from interest list to buyer list, and some additional emails set up on the interest list.

    But as far as getting people to sign up in the first place,both work equally well.

    It might sound obvious , maybe even stupid but you have to offer them what they want.You could offer me freedom for life to a gaming membership site but I couldn't care less about gaming so it wouldn't excite me at all.Whatever your price point of entry is there has to be a perceived value by them so how about setting up a free survey using survey monkey to see exactly what they want from the membership site and then set out to ensure you are offering that.

    It's either a 'free membership' or a 'free course/training.' That's what work for us.
    Nonetheless, it still depends on what membership site you have, how does it benefit your target market/list, etc.

    The best way is to offer the famous $1 trial for 7-14 days. If I got that person for that one moment I don't want to give them a free report instead of a $1 buyer. That $1 buyer is worth 100 times more than the free report guy because now I have:

    -Ability to charge them
    -buyer list
    -all my affiliate promotion and open rates on emails are much more received

    I own a PLR membership site. The best FREEBIE will be software programs. Grab some internet marketing software programs with giveaway rights for your freebies.

    I've been doing the free 5 day course thing offering awesome content but when I finally introduce my offer it's actually kind of hard to get them to sign up. So I'm suspecting my list is getting filled with people looking for free content. I'll have to try the $1 trial offer.
