Hey all, so I do the marketing side for this company that I work for (construction company, hint: extremely hard due to the economy). And I do a lot of the SEO portion.

As of now, we're creating a marketing campaign strictly online (for now, offline marketing will be later).

So far we have this (in regards to promoting our company|website).

- PPC
- SEO (blogs, low competition keywords)
- Social Media
- Free advertising sites like Craigslist
- Article Diretories (?).
- Forums (having a tough time finding forums)
- Yahoo answers
- Listing on Google/Yahoo local businesses.

Other than that, I can't think of anything. Do you guys have any suggestions? Thanks.

So would you say you mainly target large commercial projects or small residential? I.market B2B full time, the more definitive the target should modify your overall strategy.

At this point, we're targeting ALL aspects. And mainly SO-CAL since that's where we're at.

Anytime there is a marketing message going to all, I tend to view that as a major red flag. For example, there is almost zero chance that Residential Room Additions and large scale developments around the world have anything in common. No marketing campaign you would implement has any chance of working for both of those markets at the same time - which in turn means it would likely not work for either of them.

You really need to segment your strategy down, and create a marketing campaign for each of those very unique markets. Prioritize them, based on your company's overall business objectives, and then implement them using that priority. After you prioritize them, then analyze the target customer and create the campaign for that target customer's problem that you are solving and for where that target customer is located (online and offline).

To an experienced marketer what you just said is that your target market is pretty much anyone. Thats not a target market.

You really need to spend a lot of time identifying your target market and identifying a data set about them. who are you trying to reach specifically and what do they look like?

If you skip this, you will be throwing money down the drain trying to target "all aspects" of the construction market.

That is good advice, half the advice in this thread will not effect your business in a noticeable way. Don't get me wrong SEO for ranking your biz website is important. BUT: Have you ran a Google Analytic's search for 'Your City' + 'insert relevant search term here' to see how many searches are being performed? 20? 30? And how much time are you spending to acquire that traffic?

B2B marketing is whole different animal.... different targets...Build a campaign

          Three Steps
          1. Find out what are the most profitable projects for the company....ask sales reps, accounting, the owner, etc

          2. Target those people who can include you in those projects and
Build relationships with those people....Linked In, Jigsaw, Chamber of Commerce....

          3. Keep your company in their periphery...

Everything else, for a construction business, is busy work.

I would guess someone overseeing a multi million dollar construction project is not going to blogs for advice on who to hire. They hire who they trust. A third of my clients are in the construction field and don't have time to answer email.

Keep going with those strategies. Those are the best techniques to promote a business online. Find a popular B2B website like alibaba and verify your company through them. It will also help you.

I would say the only way the blog aspect would help you directly is if you are marketing to consumer additions. Which sounds like it is full of headaches and not alot of revenue.

The real money is in the larger prospects/projects which will also shorten you net. As an example when I am a premium sub-subscriber on Linked In, and that has helped me cut to the chase and get into the conversations I need to be in.

I am unsure how Alibaba would help you in the your business. Your company needs to take a proactive networking approach.

    I am with randall here.

Find a media buy, which means a high traffic blog or site to put your ad on.

Do not get fancy with graphics either, it just needs a red headline with a click me at the bottom. They get good results and higher clickthrough rates, and chances are if you are on a highly targeted blog, you WILL get sales and optins very very easily.

Im not sure if this work over your side.

I'm sure you have your own customer base right?

Contact them one by one using email and ask if they need any services or promote any services etc.

What you are doing is reconnect with your customer base and let them know you are still in business...

Do let me know if these works..

    Have a good day

I would spend some time with video. They tend to be pretty easy to rank for local specific keywords and could drive local customers to you. Make sure they are interesting, show projects your company has completed, etc. This could result in some leads with a free traffic source.

Finding related blogs and forums and then getting space on those sites would really help you.
