Stores Go After Repeat Refunders

Interesting story about stores using a centralized database to keep track of people requesting refunds. Seek too many refunds and you may be banned from making any more:

FYI - I would not recommend demanding a copy of someone's driver's license before getting a legal opinion in your jurisdiction. My initial belief is this is illegal in California.

      I don't see any problem with this. I don't return things to stores very often, but I'm pretty sure I was asked for my ID last time I made a return.

    I'd be surprised if this is not killed on a "privacy rights" argument.

    Yet, I keep hoping that PayPal will do something like this to identify and restrict serial refunders.

    More than that, I would like to see PayPal quit charging vendors the PayPal fees, if the refunder is also an abuser. The purpose of PayPal's policy in this regard is to encourage vendors to make better products and services that will see fewer refunds.

    But PayPal knows who the serial refunders are, and those PayPal fees should not be stacked on the vendor, when it is the buyer who is abusing the system.

      I was going to say something similar about paypal.

      Having dealt with this kind of non-sense and losing money, I'm all for retailers doing this. I wish I could request people provide their ID's on paypal. But I can understand the privacy issues to I'm sure some people feel.

    Reminds me of people who refund like crazy with Kindle books. Amazon cracked down on people who did this.

      Interesting - I think it is wrong for people to say buy a book from Amazon, read it, and then return it. Isn't that what the library is for? I think it's good they are doing this for people that are really abusing refunding things.
