Email or Webmail:

What's the difference and which is better?
Can I configure Gmail to receive either one?

Thank you

Webmail is simply a built-in email interface that you get when you host your domain. It's simply an online email organizer which you can access through your web browser, rather than using Outlook Express or similar off-line app to read/manage your domain-based email. Yes, you can configure Gmail to receive.

I prefer you to use gmail because it is easy to use it has a built in google talk with video. And it is very fast in receiving emails from your websites. And yes you can configure gmail to receive mails from your websites.

I use both, but am migrating all my Outlook accounts to Gmail for easier access from any computer.

As said webmail is just email you read online. I switched all my email to gmail last year from using thunderbird. Gmail has a great interface and spam filter. You can forward all your email and set-up a default domain to use (ie. contact@joebloggs.com). As Gene says the beauty of using gmail is you can access your mail from any computer. I back up my mail to thunderbird one a week.
Also worth mentioning is the fact gmail are testing offline access (in labs) so you can read emails and write emails offline and send once online like you can do with a regular email software.

Yes, GMail is very powerful compared to webmail. Apart from the convenience of using GMail, the main benefit of using GMail is that you can use other Google features (e.g.: calendar, chat, etc.) using single sign-on. They are all integrated at one powerful platform.

Hi Arturus, Gmail is the only way to go, I have been using that for a long time and the single sign on is a cool feature

Gmail + Webmail + Email = Google Apps.

I use Google Apps. For demo visit: http://mail.esupportguru.com

ie. yourname@yourdomain.com and still use gmail.

You may need to hire someone to configure it for you but its great service you dont want to miss.

Any questions let me know. I am techie and worked for a web hosting support too.
