Backlinks and changing domains

Thanks to the advice of Web Dummy (he's no dummy BTW), I purchased a good keyword rich domain for my blogger blog and will be switching to that shorty (after the nameserver is updated).

I've spent considerable time getting backlinks to my blogger domain and after the transition, the traffic to my old domain will forward to my new domain...

My question is...does my new domain name get any of the "link juice" I've built up or do I start from scratch?

Either way I'll continue to build back links but I'm wondering if I should "redo" some of the high PR back links I've already established (with the blogger domain).

    If you are able to do a permanent redirect, generally the pagerank will be transferred on the next update. That is why it is popular for blackhats to buy domains with pagerank and redirect them to other domains.

    Ultramark, I a rather new to this blogging thing. I take it from you comment that building a blog using WP hosted on my site is a better option than blogger. I am correct?

      Why not add the new domain in the links on your new self hosted blog and get some serious juice pointing to the new site?

      That blogger blog will be a strong backlink that is established, and you control.

      Dupe content is not an issue.

    BTW - keyword rich domain names make MUCH less difference to your traffic and results than your promotional and link building actions.

    Going for keyword loaded domains only makes a difference if you haven't already done much or the niche is not too competitive.

    Ultimately long-term they'll probably get penalised by the search engines anyway so I wouldn't put all your hope in the domain name making too much difference, or expecting it to make more difference than actually marketing your site properly.

    Thanks everyone,

    I appreciate the help. I don't have any page rank to speak of. I was just curious as to what effect this move has. I just started to realize I was taking this site (learning experience) more serious than I originally planned, so I wanted to get away from the blogger.com name and get my own domain, not to shortcut any marketing just thought this made more sense long term. BTW cheapbeerkits was the domain name I selected, do you guys and gals think this could get penalized?
