Do mini affiliate sites work any more?

Where you review various very closely related products on a domain or subdomain and then rank them based on your research/review.

For example, someone ranks various web hosting packages out of 10 and throws in affiliate links.

Or is it better as a standalone review, similar to sales page where you only review one product on that page and no mention of others?

I would say that a standalone review is better because the focus is on that particular product and the quality is more relative.

My guess is that affiliate minisites are the kind of sites that Google hates the most.

This is my guess, too, definitely. That would certainly fit in particularly well with all the general impressions they give (I'm thinking of comments on their WebMaster Central blog, and Matt Cutts' interviews, more than anything else) regarding "what they feel should be significant/recognized" in SEO terms. Surely not a model to aspire toward, if one wants SEO traffic.

There are an I subtitle plethora of threads that have been made to answer this question. Now stop taking the easy way out and make a real website.

Anyway, minisites DO NOT work anymore(at least for the long run).

All my sites are real sites. However, I want to add some affiliate reviews as well so I was wondering what template I might use to create really attractive looking review pages rather than as if it is part of site, even though it will be. I don't the review page to have my sites header on top. Can I do this with Optimize Press or should I go with cheaper options from Themeforest who have some nice sales page templates that you can integrate within a WordPress blog?

At the same time, I don't want the review pages to look like a sales page which are more for your own products.

Optimize Press does come with some nice graphics options though.

Well, this is not a real minisite, this is just an extension of your website. If you just planning for it to be a redirect or a just a new section to the website, Optimize Press is the way to go.

Yeah I've found a significant reduction in the effectiveness of mini sites

You can never go wrong with authority sites. They deliver more value and Google loves them.
