You are not the only one. I don't get this thread at all.

It seems to me like BLOG.com has deleted this person's account because they were not using it. Correct me if I am wrong.

That was displayed on blog.com's own home page, not on someone else's page hosted there.

The OP is contending (a) that they did that deliberately as a "publicity stunt" in order to get people linking to it as a "talking point", and (b) that this was a creative/imaginative/inventive form of publicity for them to try (and judging by the conversation it's started off about it, here alone, he may be right - my guess is that many people who hadn't heard of blog.com until yesterday will now have become aware of them, albeit some of them in a rather negative way! ).

nope, blog.com posted a message that they suspended their own site due to breaking their own inactivity rules advising themselves to contact themselves to resolve the issue. this got linked to from all over the place resulting in successful linkbait campaign, loads of traffic and im sure hundreds new members.

You're really not: you're seeing a saved picture of the "blog suspended" screen that the site's home page was showing yesterday. The OP is stating that Blog.com deliberately put that on their home page for a while in order to encourage people to link to it, in order to demonstrate it, and presumably implying that he thinks that was a good thing for them to have done.

Then how does that help, OP to promote his own site.

          Waiting for the reply....

It doesn't. The OP's own site hasn't been mentioned at all and has nothing to do with the point he was making, which referred to blog.com's own home page. He's explained his perception of what happened, and why, in post #3 above.

He thinks it was designed as linkbait.

Okay I'll try and clarify for anyone who is confused. Link baiting is an action carried out to attract inbound links (which drive traffic and help with search engine visibility).

By setting this page for a day (or however long they did) people will be blogging, forum posting and writing articles about it like crazy (because it's a MAJOR site).

A lot of this content will link to the blog.com homepage to PROVE to their audience that the site is "broken".

So once blog.com have set it back to their normal homepage they have a ton of new juicy links pointing towards their targeted content!
