  • You could always run it through Internet Archive: Wayback Machine and see if there has been any questionable content on their. Check out for adult content or reasons why google would ban the domain. Check the Whois information out of the domain and see what other domains the s/he has.

Another question to ask is, does it fit your business, if yes, then go for it.

    • Wayback is definitely worth checking out.

    • I just used that tool and it is so cool.

Took a look at some websites and how they were designed when they were first starting out.
  • In addition to the Wayback machine (which will show you what was ON the site), you should do a Google search both for references to the URL (as a regular search term) and for pages that link to the URL ( as a "link:" search). If the URL has lots of links from bad neighborhoods, it may be as dangerous as if it had inappropriate content on the site.
  • Hi everyone,

if you've checked that the domain isn't
ban for google and you can make profit
from it. Then sure buy it!

    All the best

    • I've never really found any benefits to aged domains.

They say it's a factor in Google's algorithm...but if it is - I'm guessing its such a low factor as to be nearly negligible.

I've owned domains that were 10, 12, even 15 years old and never noticed any appreciable benefit as far as rankings go...
