back to basics... teach me landing pages PLEASE!

Hello fellow warriors,
I'm in the process of getting back into the online marketing arena and i'm trying to tidy up the mess i left the biz last time.
I reactivated a PPC campaign that was once profitable, did some bid changes and some reorganizing and started to get clicks.
After a few days i realized i'm getting pretty good clicks for somewhat cheap prices.

well, the next obvious step is checking my click bank account,
alas, no sale...
A few days more had past and i started seeing some sales but nowhere near enough to cover the PPC costs.

So i've been reading and looking around and what everyone seems to say is:
"There is no real chance of making money with direct linking"
well, i remember myself making some money with direct linking in the past but i now realize that it may be time to master the landing page method.

The problem is i couldn't find reliable guidance regarding how to make a good landing page without being a graphic designer or a SEO expert.

can someone point me (and probably lots of other marketers) to a good, step-by-step, complete guide to landing pages?

I would be very grateful

Find problem. Poke problem. Relate, provide solution. Call to action. That is a landing page. Drive traffic test and repeat.

but isn't that what the product's sales page is doing?

Yes it does, but if you are not doing that in the capture page why would anyone opt-in? That is why having an offer that is in line with the freebie is so important. Like an add on or the solution to another problem that arises when the first problem solved. You can lead this into a few OTO's as well. This has worked very well for me.

I am sure there are other answers that will help as well. For me that is the system that leads to 40% aqnd up on the capture, and around a 3 to 6% on the original offer, and 15 to 20% on the OTO's. The copy and can always be better. These number work for me as an auto-pilot.

Write a personal and compelling story of how you or someone you know had a problem, searched endlessly for answers and finally found your product, which was the long lost solution.

It's a special kind of landing page, a pre-sell landing page to be specific. If you don't have personal success with the product, don't lie. Find someone that does and relay their story.

I used to write them for people and realized I was getting paid once and they were getting paid over and over. Now I write my own. There's a decent example in my sig. Good luck.

Are you still promoting the same product you were promoting before you stopped the
    campaign?

If yes, the product might be outdated or just beeen promoted too much by many other affiliates over the time.

You can get a lot of info on sales/landing pages and the sales process, which are the result of excellent scientific research, at MarketingExperiments.com. You won't find general "what-to-do" advice like here, but lots of proven "how-to" details. And the devil is in the details.

    Hope this helps...

And don't forget to build multiple variants, split-test, and then repeat.

Profitability with PPC is only gained by squeezing every last drop of value from your ad spend.

    Good luck!

Landing page method is definitely work best right now. A convincing landing page can beat many direct link at once. The problem with landing page, statistic doesn't really help observing its formula. The most generic advice you will frequently meet is invest your money on sales copy writer. Copywriter is the first priority above web designer, people read your article to reap the benefit that your offer, not just look around the design and then suddenly want to opt in.

Here are a few pointers ... not a guide to creating a LP.
    • make sure that your LP has the exact same offer your ad/sales page had
    • use same colors & pictures/images
    • use a clear CTA
    • CTA - make sure it has a valuable offer (click here is not valuable) use action words and make sure the lead knows exactly what the CTA is offering. ex, "download puppy dog ebook", "instant access to ...", "Get your free ...."
    • use the value proposition
These tips should help you if your looking for pointers in writing your LP & CTA. Good luck with that!
