Good morning warriors!

I just wanted to thank you for all the valulable help you have given to me!

I have a couple of questions: Do you have any tips on making a youtube video/editing it?

Also, I cannot upload videos to youtube. I keep getting "this is a document file, needs to be a video file". I spent HOURS last night trying to figure this one out. Does anyone have any ideas? Thank you so much. Anne

    Hi Anne,

The second part of your question is easy - you're trying to upload something that isn't a video. Check the extension of the file - it should be mp4, avi, mov, or wmv. Youtube also accepts a few other video formats as well.

The first part of your question is pretty general and you may have to be more specific. There are countless styles of videos and types of video software. Everyone has their favorite method and will recommend something different. The trick is to find a few methods that are easy for you to do. Or you can pick a style and then figure out what tools you need to create that style.

With any video, the general goal is to provide some useful or interesting information and present it in an appealing way that people will want to watch.

Yes, so what are your goals with the videos?
What kind of videos do you want to upload?

Hello, newbie here but I figure I can help out here since I upload videos to Youtube on an almost daily basis. For editing videos I use Camtasia which is available for both PC and Mac. As far as ranking high in Youtube, I think there are a lot of factors that come in play with that. Some things that I do that have been mentioned here is that I include the link to my own site in the description at the very top so that they don't have to "show more" to see my link. Other than having a good title and keywords I also started finding similar videos with much higher rankings and posting either video responses or just regular comments.

Obviously don't spam other people's channels, just make sure that your comment and/or video response is appropriate. I've had one person try to do video responses with some of my videos and they're just videos of puppies or cats when my videos are about graphic design. I didn't approve any of those.

There are many ways to do your video:

    Capturing footage
    1. For instructional video, you are use a webcam, or camtestia.
These are Great for over-my-shoulder videos

You can also use PowerPoint to create slideshow video.
There are a few good softwares around that
can translate your texts into professional voice over.

I use flip video camera to shoot my outdoor stuffs.
I strongly recommend this for bloggers..
The video quality is Great and
The video file size is small.. Easy to upload to your blog.

    video editing
    1. I personnel use Vegas for my editing.
There are some free ones around such as iMovie..

    uploading/SEO
I think your question is about ranking high in YouTube.
If you do proper optimization to your video,
You can easily get a good ranking pretty fast.

    Things to take note:
    1. Description/ title
    2. Have the keyword appear at the top
    For robots searching
    3. Have a full URL link in the description.
    Must include "http://"

These are just some basic imformation.
PM me if you need more helps.

If you don't have much experience with video creation, Animoto is another great option with a very easy to use drag and drop interface. You can make short videos for free or longer videos for a small monthly fee.

Animoto is good for making fancy slideshow style videos. For "over the shoulder" tutorial videos go for Camtasia as others mentioned.
