It's definitely possible and there are plenty of people making some money on Squidoo. However, I honestly believe that there are far better ways to make money online than to build squidoo lenses.

You were misinformed. It's not nearly as straightforward as that. What you have to do, to have a high-ranking lens, is hardly worth it for the few dollars you might/might not get.

If you particularly like Squidoo, and want to do it because you enjoy it, then go for it. But not as a way of earning money, and clearly not "for the backlinks".

This. If you're using Squidoo solely for backlinks you're likely going to get your lenses deleted or spend a lot of time creating a good lens for a no-follow backlink.

I like Squidoo because I can write about whatever I want in my spare time and earn money. I can write one page about cats rather than starting a blog about cats. I can write a page about my favorite video game rather and earn commissions from it. It's where I publish things that won't fit well on my blogs but I don't want to write an entire ebook about.

IMO, the best way to get your question answered is to go to Squidoo itself and do a search.

Hey @Alexa, why do you think he should not use squidoo for backlinks? Just because they are nofollow now? or Any other reason behind that?

The way tier payments work:

Top 2k get $35-60.
Top 12k get $5-15.
Top 90k get around 50 cents.

It depends on how big the ad pool is.

I make a few hundred dollars a month there and most of it is from affiliate commissions, not tier payments.

I've had my share of Squidoo and Hubpages...
I highly recommend you to stick to your own websites, your own content and your own ideas.. don't waste your precious time, money and efforts on something you don't posses control over.. I was making a few hundreds on these network after almost 1 year of hard work.. and then got banned... filthy rich networks.. they don't care about you!

Thank you guys for your valuable responses. Your points make sense to stick with my own websites when there is a possibility of getting ban after year of hard work! Better I should start few other affiliate sites and work with my own coupon sites.
And it seems really difficult to earn $5 per month for a single post!! That makes sense. Thanks a lot.

The ROI of trying to get into Squidoo's top articles is terrible. You can probably make more money with HubPages, or by joining an affiliate program and posting the links on these sites, but you won't get rich going this path.

It’s becoming always harder and harder to have a good lensrank. I stopped creating Squidoo lenses when I saw how hard it was to drive traffic to these lenses.
