Genius way to build your list and teach people something

This is going back a few years but for some reason popped into my head the other day.
I recall signing up to an online coaching programe a long time ago The coaching was in CPA/CPL and was the first time I heard of CPA

It was basically a membership site that had various case studies and tutorials
It was free to join but here is the genius part inorder to unlock certain areas and reports you had to refer more members to the site
So basically if you refereed 10 users you got access to this area. 20 users and you can access this part 50 here 100 here and so on

This obviously helped the guy build his list but also you as you were given an affiliate link to promote the site it was on the job training as CPA is all about getting people to sign up to things

I never did promote or send much time on the site but as I said it popped into my head the other day

    That could really be powerful depending on the niche, and depending what is being content locked.

    You would have to test for the sweet spot between users doing it and user getting scared away. But very cool method.

    That was genius. I seem to remember reading a report that suggested the same thing. They had two options on their sales page. One is that they could pay the price to buy their book, or they could share the sales page with their contacts to get it for free. It was an old report, but the concept can be used now too, maybe with Facebook friends and the like. I just remembered it when I read your post.

    Methods like this are the easiest way to multiply your traffic without doing anything.

    i've seen people doing stuff like that, in todays terms it's more along the lines of share this on your fb or twitter page to get access to a secret bonus...

    I have tried it and it works well, there are some tech aspects to making it all work smoothly though

    It can also work against you though, a lot of us are very busy and don't want someone telling us to go get a bunch of prospects (for you) in order to have something that we are interested in right now at this moment. Lose me now and the moment is gone ...maybe forever, unless I have heard your site is truly dynamic.

    I personally do not like that type of technique cause I believe the only one that - perhaps- benefited, was the owner of the site.

    Obviously if the training helped YOU make actual cash from what you learned, then I'd say fair enough. If not, it's not a win-win situation in my eyes.

    In business I believe that we need to create long term win-win situations in order to prosper... anything less it's a waste of time and perhaps money.

    Don't get me wrong, it works. Sure it does. But what was the bottom like for you?

    Ye I've seen stuff like this before. I remember seeing a "link karma" machine or something like that.

    Subscribers get more content by adding more subscribers!!

    Ya I would say chances are the traffic is not quality... only way to know for sure is to test though :-)
