What A journey it has been over the last 5 years!

I have been through the ringer and back. While I don't spend much time on this forum anymore I did want to stop by and see if I could offer some solid advice for those who may still be struggling.

When I first got here I knew nothing and pumped myself full of every piece of information I could find. Free and paid. I call it the education phase. It was a time filled with extreme depression I must say! I built S**t sites and hoped for the best.

Time and time again I would take half of what I learned in the products and WSO's and get out there and apply. I did say half. I would always skip something. Usually the stuff that made me feel lost and stupid. Things like Linking, setting up the recommended plugins and content, and tagging. I would always do half. Don't get me started on what would happen if they reccommend a tool that cost money that could help. "They just want me to spend more money".

Despite what I have been told I would never create any kind of plan. NEVER!!! My plan was usually to throw this at the wall and hope it sticks. When it didn't and it never did. I would head back to a sales page and do the same thing all over again. Even though I had read the same sales page 300 times I still thought that this product was going to be my savior!
Keep in mind I would change nothing at all when it came to my habits.

I call it hope and prayer marketing. See I had no defined goal. No idea of where I wanted to go or how I was going to get there. I spammed everyone when I found an offer. Everyone!!!! This was the plan.

The big change happened just over a year and a half ago.

Now some of the people here are not going to like this part, but it is what I did. I purchased a WSO for $9 from someone I trusted. Then I shut down the spam offer email and committed 110% like I was instructed to. I mean I did every last thing that was instructed. When I had a specific issues. I asked.

* Side Note* I became very lonely when I sat down at the computer. I was not on the forums. I was not on Facebook, and I was not reading 20 emails everyday. To combat this I found some really cool YouTube tracks and locked them in to help me work. Music and self help. Mainly confidence building. I needed to feel like more than I was. I was beginning to feel like a complete failure. I could barley look at my wife and talk about the computer dream anymore.

Here was the key. When I could not find a solution and the creator was not able to help. I hit Google and YouTube like a mad man. You can learn how to do anything on there. Provided you know what you are looking for. Remember 110% commitment! A funny thing happened. I saw results. I made 3 sales with a list of only 40 people. These were not earth shattering by any means, but they were all the proof I needed to push forward and really commit.

Now I am sitting here mid Thursday afternoon with my kids playing as they are home from school. My numbers are good and they go up and down. It is all based on how much time I spend working compared to networking. You may want to consider networking as well.

A quick comment on networking. If you haven't made any money to this point. No one will do it for you and no one will save you, but people are always looking for help. Offer to help one of these big names on a launch.
You may not know what you can do and they may say no, but you won't know if you don't ask. Also a great way to make friends is to simply say hi how's it going. I know it sounds simple, but I can tell you now that most people that contact me do not just say hi.

I will wrap this up as I am sure you might be sick of reading by now. So I will close with this. Until I set out to become more than I was. The results were nil.

Everyday I plan, plot and grow. Do I make mistakes and sometimes piss off my readers with too many emails? Of course I do. That is all part of the process. We make mistakes, but we need to look at every move we make in this business and reflect it. Then grow and learn. So if you have been struggling... Make the commitment Now! If you fail. Don't blame. Reflect and see if you missed something then try again. Warren Buffet learns from every failure. Why would you be any different?

Wishing You All The Success In The World,

Excellent post, Bill. I also found YouTube to be an amazing resource for helping me learn how to do things that I couldn't figure out any other way.

Thanks Bill. I really appreciate your post as it is timely for me. I'm in the situation where my numbers go up and they go down, except when they go down, they really go down, and when they're up, they're definitely not as high as I want them to be.

It's just like you said, you need to have a goal, and then follow through with that goal with purpose. It's easy to become distracted by someone else's agenda for your day, but we all really need to create our own agenda, and execute the task we've set for ourselves.

For example, I was listening to a podcast with Amy Porterfield and Dean and Joe and she said how she manages her time on Facebook. She'll set a predetermined time to ask questions of her audience, and to communicate with them and answer their questions. Then, when the time is up, she moves onto other tasks in her business.

I think a lot of us get caught up with this. We start on a task, and like you said, we only do it half way. Maybe while we're in the middle of it, and while we know it will lead to money, we get distracted because we want it to be easier and more simple. So the grass is greener on the other side basically.

But in the meantime, while it's okay to float around like that, you've really got to schedule it like any other task in your business. There's a time for opportunity discovery, and there's a time for getting down and dirty and getting to work.

The great thing about this business is all the work you do is leverageable and really stacks on itself, building assets for the future. Whereas showing up for someone else, having a job with an employer, sure you might get paid well for your time, you might not, but all your doing is building their business.

Stick to what works and you'll be okay in this game. It's all about that precious energy of focus and concentration, and not allowing anyone or anything to throw you off your game. And of course, conquering that fear that makes us stop only half way!

    Thanks for sharing!

I totally agree, instead of watching TV, I will go to YouTube and type in "SEO" or "Link Building" (you get the point) I will then go to their filters, and make sure it's 20 minutes or longer. THEN, I will filter it to show the ones that were uploaded within the last week. BOOM, do this a few times a week and you will stay up to date. There are lots of like minded people making Google Hangout videos where there are tons of brains in one video talking about the stuff you want to learn more about!
