Uninstalling A WP Blog -- Is That All It Takes?? Really??

I'm trying to figure out how to uninstall one of my WP blogs. Looking at past posts, it looks like all you do is --

1. Open up cpanel
2. Click on Fantastico
3. Go to Wordpress
4. Click "remove" under "current installation"

Could someone more experienced confirm that this is all it takes? My actual aim is to reinstall WP because I've been having problems with posts and pages getting wiped out all of a sudden.

Thanks warriors!

IT is really that simple - unless you use FTP when it is even simpler - delete the folder.

Before re-installing, it would be a good idea to find out what is causing the problems you are experiencing if you haven't already done so.

You might not like what I say - but I believe it.

Some old school smarts would help - and here's to Rob Toth for his help. Bloody good stuff, even the freebies!

You've got it - if you installed it using Fantastico you should remove it with Fantastico. Fantastico keeps a text file that it uses to keep track of the instances and versions of the applications it installed. By using Fantastico's control panel you'll keep that file correctly updated.

Art is correct regarding FTP, if you did a manual install of WordPress you can remove it quickly with your FTP program. You may also want to use PHPMyAdmin to remove the MySQL database associated with your WordPress installation.

With cPanel (which I'm assuming since Fantastico was mentioned) you don't delete the database through PHPMyAdmin, you delete it through cPanel. The copy of PHPMyAdmin that comes included with cPanel is restricted from creating or deleting databases, makes things a little more secure on a shared server if only cPanel can create or delete them.

But back to the OP's question.. if you installed through Fantastico, just uninstall through Fantastico, it really is that simple. If you installed manually, just delete the directory with your FTP program and delete the database in cPanel, not quite as simple as "one click" but it's still pretty easy.

Even easier - Go to FTP delete the folder and then go to Cpanel and delete the database, this makes sure everything is gone..

If you want to use the same database then just go to PhpMyAdmin select the database and click on "Empty" it will empty the database for you so you can reuse it.

And in CPanel/PHPMyAdmin, you could make a backup of the MySQL database just in case you ever wish you hadn't deleted the blog!

    Exactly.

'Cos the thing about PHPMyAdmin is - when you click "delete" it's gone in a puff of smoke. There's no "are you sure?" prompt.

And all those MySQL database names look so similar!
