How to Get Product Distribution Rights?

My husband happens to be a Google Adwords Expert who's been freelancing his services for the past 7 years. Lately, he's been thinking about running his own adword campaigns. He actually wants to sell some products (Medicines, furniture, Antiques, pain management tools/courses etc.)
Recently, he contacted an Australian client regarding Wheatgrass products but the patent officer (in India) told him that it'd take at least a year an a half to get the distribution rights and he was not sure if we'd end getting them.
Can anyone, who's had experience selling products by getting distribution rights, share his experience? We'll appreciate your time and help.
PS: where can I find the list of the products that can be easily imported to India and sold. For example Paper can be imported from any country and sold. But Vitamin supplements can't.
