Testing a niche without PPC

9 replies
I am about to start my first website and am planning on becoming an affiliate for clickbank. I know the best way to test a conversion rate is through PPC but I only have 140$ and don't want to waste a lot of it if my venture fails. I've heard people have had success with SEO but I've heard that is costly as well. Are there any options besides these two?

    Yes, Agree with Simon, making a YouTube video with your specific niche then advertising would be great. Hope this may works. Have a nice day.

    You can create a fanpage and increase the likes, interact there, use Fb ads if you want, it's much cheaper than Google PPC and SEO, anyway.

    SEO mostly costs you in time, unless you plan like using a tool like SENuke or their ilk or outsourcing it.

    Google Adwords will give you $75 bucks your first time around if you spend $25 with them. Just remember, you cannot send their PPC traffic directly to an offer, you have to follow their guidelines so make sure you read them if you choose to take them up on their coupon offer.

    Another way you can test a niche is to use a service like Submit Your Article and submit 2 high quality articles per week for about 4 to 6 weeks, though that will take some time, it's an effective way to test.

    Go through the threads throughout this forum that specifically talks about getting targetted traffic and you'll get more ideas.

    This is probably a thread that will help you, then: http://www.warriorforum.com/main-int...ml#post7110523

    For me, PPC is a very bad way to test a niche. The test results, good or bad, don't tell me what I need to know.

    That's more than I spent on my entire business set-up, when I started.

    Yes, countless options. This is what I did (and still do), if it helps: http://www.warriorforum.com/main-int...ml#post5721774 (it's highly targeted, highly responsive, free traffic, incomparably better than SEO traffic, but of course you're spending work/energy/effort instead of money, and as with absolutely anything, you need to have the skills and knowledge to do it, for it to work for you).

      Yes, here are a few more options including

      Article marketing with resource box included;

      Newsletter writing with links included;

      Reciprocal linking with others in your niche;

      Free advertising - although you have to be very discriminating where you do it;

      Free press releases;

      Forum posting in your niche;

      Warrior Forum classified ads ($20);

      Infographic syndication (can easily create these yourself if you have an eye for graphic design);

      Ebook marketing with links attached;

      Short report marketing;

      And on and on and on - get creative!

        I don't base my business on search engine traffic at all. I saw "PPC" and thought "AdWords" (which is the only kind of PPC I have any real, profitable experience of using at all! ). And AdWords, of course, is a form of search engine traffic. So I was generalizing inappropriately - sorry!

        I do get tons of search engine traffic, but I happen to get that just as a side-benefit, because my major traffic-generation method happens to produce some very high rankings for keywords of medium competitiveness; but it's universally the worst-converting traffic I get, by far, out of everything I've ever tried. I can test things by AdWords (though I don't any more, now) and find the results very disappointing, with something that might still be a perfectly good and viable niche for article marketing.

        My "reasoning", such as it was, is that search engine traffic represents something like 20% of my traffic but only 3%/4% of my income, so it's not reliable enough for me to use as "testing". But there was less reasoning in my little "aside", there, than there should have been, because I was equating "PPC" with "AdWords", which wasn't too realistic - apologies for the confusion!

    Also, I would suggest you to post your affiliate product's advertisements at classified sites like craigslist, backpage. It will maximize the exposure for sure and it can bring some leads too.

    Alexa, I'm curious as to what your reasoning is behind this? I've been testing different niches with PPC to:

    a. Survey them.

    b. To test conversions and see how many sales I make.

    And it's worked extremely well. That doesn't mean it's the only test I do, and it doesn't mean I get failures, but it's served me well.

    What other information would you be looking for? I'm genuinely curious behind your reasoning.
