Try posting on niche related forums. This is a real pain in the ass but you will get the most high converting and relevant traffic to your site this way.

A few posts a day can go a long way.

'Great writers' and 'a couple bucks' do not belong in the same sentence.

I've been amazed at the large quantity of traffic I get from article marketing on EzineArticles.com and from social marketing.

If I wasn't seeing it for myself, I wouldn't have believed it, but that's what my Google Analytics tells me!

I'm new to internet marketing but this is EXACTLY why I'm getting into it... there is SOOO much absolutely garbage content out there that good content, I feel like, has potential.

You can try guest posting on high traffic niche related blogs. That's a great way to get tons of targeted traffic without spending money.

There's an endless amount of threads exactly like this one on the forum. If you use the search tool you'll more than likely find a lot more information on generating traffic than in this thread.

Anyway, here's a few methods that have worked for me. Note: these are in random order as they are off the top of my head.

    1. Video marketing
    2. Social media marketing
    3. Forum posting
    4. Email marketing (once you have a list)
    5. Blogging
    6. Guest posting
    7. Article marketing
    8. SEO
    9. Blog comments
    10. Web 2.0's

You'd be better off focusing on a few methods rather than trying all ten. Remember not to rely on one traffic source either. If that one traffic source is shut down and you're getting traffic from no where else... well you're screwed.

I wouldn't focus on SEO much either. I'm guessing you have a site that's new, or don't have one at all. Unless your site has pages and pages of high quality, in-depth content, then you're going to have a difficult time ranking in the search engines.

If you focus on putting out content that the search engines will love you for, then you'll get there in no time, but if you're thinking of throwing up 500 word articles of nonsense, then I'd forget about SEO. Quality, not quantity, especially nowadays with search engines! The 500 word article days are over if you ask me, only my opinion tho.

Your best bet would probably be to try out 1. video marketing (YouTube and other popular video sharing sites)
    2. Social media marketing (Facebook, Twitter, etc... however, from my experience the quality of the traffic from Twitter is terrible, but that's just my experience.
    3. Forum posting
    4. Build a list. Do this from day one!
    5. Article marketing

Blogging is also a great way to build an audience, but you have to be dedicated and willing to put in the effort, and write AMAZING content.

Hope this will help you out. If you need anything else I'd be glad to help.

      Good post ^^^^

I get 75% of my traffic from article marketing, but if anyone tells you that you can do that by outsourcing the article-writing for a few dollars a time, I strongly suggest that you ignore both that, and anything else the same people might tell you (just in case all their other "information" also comes directly from the Urban Myth School of Internet Marketing). The kind of articles you can buy for a couple of dollars are not for "article marketing": they're for attempted SEO purposes. They're typically chunks of 500-word keyword-optimized text to which backlinks can be attached. That has nothing to do with article marketing at all.

I also happen to get nearly 20% of my traffic from search engines, but that traffic - a huge volume though it is - contributes probably only 3% of my income.

... and it helps you to get them published in places where the highly targeted, qualified, responsive traffic you want to attract is already looking (and that doesn't mean places to which you can just "submit" it on your own and have it accepted and published with no editorial or approval processes).

    Article writing!

However, I would stay away from cheap content articles from outsourcers.

Been there, done that, didn't like it

havent seen too much good info on press releases in here yet.

    They are Great!

Most the time people will write or re-write a crappy article and spin that off as a press release! NOPE! not good enough jan!!!

You can write something good, high quality that is news worthy and you can get insane results.

One of my niches in the financial niche, and our last press release (Who I get a retired journo to write) brought in from one single press release, apon going viral 8 sales, many enquiries, 189 subscribers and several back end recurring commissions.

So are press releases worth it! hell yes. :-)

Just don't forget to get your visitors on your lists! Because you can then re-cycle the hard-earned traffic back to your other posts/pages/sites.

The best traffic source must be from Organic search traffic (Google, Yahoo, MSN, etc)... They convert like crazy as per my experience. The hardest thing is; how can you rank for all the profitable keywords...

If you are looking for high conversion rate I'd try Solo Ads. The average is 30%-40% and it can go up to 70% if you have an appealing offer (or down to 5% if not)!

    Good luck

To generate good traffic, the way is - SSC - Social+SEO+Content. In 2013 you need to go behind Quality then Quantity. Quality and honest work can give you huge number of traffic. So as per my personal opinion
    - Use Good quality cotent
    - Authentic and good quality backlinks
    - Need to engage in Social platforms like G+, Twitter, Facebook, Google Community, Stumbleupon, Linkedin, Pinterest etc. These sites can give you good amount of traffic.
    - Last but not the least please avoid OOPS, i.e - "Over Optimization Process"

If you want a high conversion rate then you need to make sure your traffic is highly targeted. You can get high targeted traffic from organic SEO, forum posting, and paid avenues like FB ads or media buys.

FB ads is great because you can target by age, location, gender and even their interests. I would definitely try out FB ads if I were you!

For best ways are Adwords and Bing. It has proven that PPC is the most quality traffic.
If you have built your campaigns the right way, you will be getting results in the long term.

There are many different ways to go about increasing traffic, and for companies that are startups or small to medium-sized, it's all about being creative with that traffic. We all know the theories and the models, and we also know that marketing is a lot easier with millions of dollars. What we are looking to do is create virality with few resources.

I am in the process of testing different methods myself, but I think it's all a matter of trial and error, being up-to-date, taking risks and aiming big.

A great book that has served for me as a source of inspiration is called Damn Good Advice for people with talent: https://www.moodyo.com/product/3dcaf...by-george-lois

And a great book I recently discovered to help guide you through developing and marketing your product is:

There are several methods you can use to drive traffic to your site. Some are...

    - Forums
    - Blog commenting
    - Guest posting
    - Writing articles
    - SEO
    - Creating newsletters
    - Social Bookmarking
    - Blogging
    - Social Media (Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest)

The trick is to pick 2 methods you believe you would enjoy doing then stick to only those methods. Once you see results move to to 2 new methods.

After you have tried every method discard the ones that are not producing results - and focus on the ones that are.

I would agree with Kevin above. If you have a good product, you should give solo ads a try. These are lists of people that, in theory, are buyer, not just people looking for a freebie or info on a topic. It is a very fast way to generate traffic, however, there is some lag time with when they are able to send your offer out. Either way, you are tapping into a proven list, will get clicks, and if your offer is good, you should make some sales without having to do too much. Good luck!
