How to find original Image Source

Hello Again,

Lately I am having a lot of problem with the images. I wanted to write one article for my blog after I saw a tweet about a tiger with down syndrome.

Earlier when I asked about the Image copyright, everyone here suggested me to take permission for the picture...... now I am in fix... thr are thousands of results for the same picture. To whom should I go for the permission to publish and how to find the original source.

These images are used so many times that its getting difficult to pinpoint a source.

Simply give a mention of the site/source from where you've taken any image. I don't think you really need to be worried, until the owner of the images asks you to take it down.

I came across a similar situation when my colleague interview Brian Mazzaferri and after a couple days we received a tweet saying that the pictures used in there belong to him. So we had to take them down and asks for his permission to put them up again. Though he didn't let us use all the images.

Anyway, as long as you aren't modifying anything using a photoedit software, and mentioning a source, I don't think there should be any legal issue against you.

  • if you want to be very careful about it you can do a reverse image search or check the exif file of that image. The original image should have the complete information

As was mentioned, when an image shows up in tens or hundreds of places, you don't really need to worry about it. It's just part of how stuff is passed around the internet today.

That being said, it's not a bad idea to go to some of the sites using the image and see if they have any photo credit info under the image. That's a shortcut you can just copy for your own use.
