Background Music On Training Videos?

If you were watching a training video series that you downloaded, or even on YouTube or a blog, would you want the videos to have background music or none? Thanks!

Generally for these types of videos add music only for the intro and exit. You do not want it competing with the instruction.

As rhino says, intro and outro music is okay, but background music during spoken content is generally distracting for training videos.

In my opinion, when music is used, the video gets more interactivity and charm, it becomes much more original. Though, if you have really valuable and concentrated information to say during your videos, I would not put any type of soundtrack.

I've seen the Video Boss himself Andy Jenkins use a combination of music, powerpoint and live action spread throughout his video presentations and it's really compelling.

I don't fully understand his process but he seems to break up especially long videos into segments, sometimes changing the music entirely to create different emotional effects throughout the presentation.

There are of course sections where there is no background music at all but then as a segway (how do you spell that word?) to other sections he drops in some music again.

I'm glad you asked this question because in my own experience I find that long slideshow style videos can get boring really quickly especially if the presenter isn't very energetic.

It might be something worth experimenting with. Perhaps getting ideas from popular TV shows.

I just made 2 versions of each, and allow people to watch the videos without background music by clicking a button. I agree with making the videos compelling by using the combination of different things. I was first using powerpoint slides but I am switching to animated whiteboard slides and adding the music option. Thank you for your suggestions!

    No not really.
I sell a lot of video courses over the years and there is no music anywhere in them.
    It just distracts the viewer.
The focus should be on the content and the value given not gimmicks like music, animations etc.

You don't agree with giving the viewer both options?
