For what it's worth, hostgator has cheap hosting, and reseller hosting. You can usually find a coupon code for hostgator at a site like retailmenot.com.

Best domain registrars are namecheap.com and moniker.com.

Sorry if I didn't follow the best/least expensive format.

Sometimes best and least expensive are not necessarily a good thing to find together!

I haven't done shared hosting in quite a while, so I cannot make a recommendation for that one. However, I have been using Hostgator for reseller account for quite some time, and I am very happy with both the service and the support. Their support is always responsive, and available by both phone and live chat.

Also, with Hostgator there are additional "freebies" in the control panel (CPanel, by the way) that other hosts do not offer. For instance, they offer quite an extensive selection of templates for creating web sites. The only catch is, if you use the template the site must be hosted on a Hostgator server. Take it someplace else and it's copyright infringement. Not a catch if you host with them and then are completely happy.

Also, if you want to resell hosting using your reseller account and bill the client automatically, they offer a choice of 2 different billing programs, WHMCS or WHMAutopilot. It's not normally installed; all you do is contact support and they get you a license to use it, no extra money involved.

As for their pricing, they are not the cheapest thing out there. But they are not overpriced at all. And for the support and other things they offer at no additional cost, in some ways they seem a bargain.

I'm sorry if I sound like I work there! I don't. It's just that I've lived through several webhosting nightmares (including one were the tech guy was in the hospital with appendicitis when my sites went down! Long story there!) before I found them and I am a very satisfied customer.

If you want a discount, one coupon code that's good for a free month is "HOUSTON" (that's one of their locations, the other is Rio...yes, in Brazil). Or you can Google "Hostgator coupon" and go to town and pick the best one out there.

As for domain registrar, I will say this. As an internet marketer, I will warn you. Stay away from GoDaddy, and I say that for one reason. If someone cries "spam" on you, they will hijack your domain and charge you ransom in order for you to get it back. Extremely outrageous considering that in their eyes you are guilty until proven innocent. Sometimes they just say, "guilty" and that's that. Costly considering how many crazy people out there will sign up to get email from you and then report you for spam. Meanwhile, if you had a successful business at that site (profitable, I mean) it just went out the window until you pay them the ransom. There are other registrars out there who are more reasonable than this who charge just as much. In dealing with GoDaddy I have come to think of some of their transfer rules as outlandish. They're the kind of rules that can bite you if you are not paying attention.

Good registrars? Namecheap, Rebel.com, Enom. I have had nothing but positive experiences with each one of these.

Oh yeah. If you're currently hosting someplace else, Hostgator will help you relocate to their servers. And they also have dedicated servers as well, so if you outgrow them, you can just move to a different server in the same house.

For domain registration Godaddy is OK. For hosting...
So many people complain about web hosting companies, I would recommend you Hostgator. Anyway, it is important decision, not so much that you get paralyzed, but should be given plenty of attention. I recommend you to take it easy and pick one, (choose popular one)
What I do not like about webhosting companies is, they sell 6-month for $40, 1 year for $60, and pay 80% for affiliates.
GoDaddy is good choice for domain registration (to my mind), and Hostgator for webhosting.
    Hope it will help!

              Very difficult questions to answer.

'Best' can be based on a persons needs. Which is best for me may not suits your needs.

'Least expensive' can be based on persons needs again. If I am looking for 24/7 phone support, I don't mind paying extra bucks.

But for an average IMers, there are many hosts that provide value for their money: hostmonster.com, hostgator.com, bluehost.com, 100megwebhosting.com etc.

I don't have any experience with reseller hosting.

I'm considering getting myself a reseller account (for domain registration) and I was thinking of GoDaddy.. but having read this thread I'm becoming skeptical. I've got all my names currently at GoDaddy, though my hosting is spread between Hostpapa and Powweb. (both have been good).

Any recommendations on a good domain name reseller account, and do any of them offer good registration AND hosting?

Ideally I'd like to offer a one stop solution for offline clients...

Try searching google for 'enom reseller'. You will get many enom resellers who will offer accounts cheap. You get profit by selling domain registrations from your reseller account.

Check these sites: ( not affiliated or don't know the service. They are in my Favs)

In my opinion, you should use only hosting that uses cPanel as their control panel.

        Shared hosting:
Best bang for the buck is justhost.com
Host multiple domains- free domain - $41.70/6months $71.40/year

        Reseller hosting:
        hostgator.com 24-Gig Reseller Account- $24.95/month

Kiosk - understands Internet Marketers and MLMers -is becoming GVO
        70-Gig Reseller Account $44.95/month
        BUT you also get
1- Built-in Autoresponder running on your hosting account.

2- Easy Video Producer and hosting for your Videos

        3- Ten-Seat Conference Room

Customers can become affiliates - check this compensation plan - MLMers

Now in Prelaunch for GVO - 14-day Trial of Product and being an Affiliate

Domain Registrar - I like Go-Daddy but I dont like the spam story??

Most hosting reseller plans also include domain reseller accounts.
