How to Ensure Already Subscribed Visitors Don't See the Optin Form Again?

Hi everyone,

I am using Aweber if that makes any difference.

When you are creating your optin form (popup/poppver)there are a few options for how often you want the form to be shown.

The options are:

  • Display Always
  • Display Once
  • Show Every X Days (every 2,3,4... days)

My question is, when you choose either one of those, will people who subscribe once see this form again?

I don't want that to happen, so I am assuming that "Display Once" is my best option. But I am not sure about this. Does that option actually mean that already subscribed folks won't see the popup ever again?...

Do opt in forms in general by default stop showing to people (I guess based on IP) who have already subscribed?...

I would think that would be the case, I mean why would you want to bother your already subscribers with the same opt-in form again!?

I would appreciate it if anyone could shed some light on this. Thank you in advance.

  • redirect your ad links to an alternate version of the salespage that has the pop-up.

how are your current members getting there? direct url like example.com or some link

  • Probably cookie instead of IP. That way the decision to pop the form or not can be done locally using JS instead of server side.

Clear the cookies from a browser you normally don't use and do a test subscribe with the form set to Display Always. Now refresh the page to see if the form still pops up.

    • Thanks for the reply, but I am afraid I am not following you here?

      Thanks for the reply.

Sure, using cookie makes more sense.

Thanks for the suggestion, I'll try that.

That said, do all optin forms by nature do this (stop displaying for subscribed users), or do you have to put in place some rules?...

      Thanks again buys.
  • It seems like setting to "Always Display" will show it non stop even if you have subscribed. So, I have set mine to show every 2-3 days.

I just wish there was a way to stop it from displaying to people who are already subscribers.

I could set it to "Display Once", but then you would lose the chance to get the people who close the box the first time, to subscribe later on.
  • I don't use the popups so I wasn't speaking about their setup. I was just thinking it may help if you had two separate urls. one for potential customers, and one for existing customers.

landing page #1 that has the pop-up for people to register. this is the page to link your ads to or whatever other type of links leading people to your site. ex: http:/example.com/main

landing page #2 for people who are already registered on your site. and this url does not have a popup on it. http:/example.com giving your existing customers the easy url to type in

but never mind, there are too many unknown variables for what I was thinking anyhow.

    • I see. It actually makes perfect sense.

That said, in this instance I am using the popover form on the homepage a website. So, it would be hard to have 2 different home/landing pages. But I can see how what you are suggesting would work perfectly for other instances like an ad page or a sale's page.

Thanks so much for taking time to help out.
