Question On "Dealing" With HugeDomains

Ok, long story short....

Lost a domain I didn't re-register because I wasn't paying attention. Now I see it for sale at HugeDomains for over $2k. I registered a very similar name, but .net and the singular term... and I'm not liking it. I think I will get a new .com that is close, but already spent a lot of time looking.

Has anyone bought a domain from them? I see on their FAQ's, it says there have been times they've sold for less and times they said no and raised the price. LOL! I am going to shoot them an offer, but I don't want to play around too long because I have to get this domain up and running quickly here.

If you bought a domain from them and negotiated or offered a lower price, how much lower did you go? Like from $1,800 to $1,300, etc.

Thanks,

    LastWarrior,

That's it. You made a mistake. Forget it, but learn from it.
There's an opportunity right behind an error.
I personally, will assign that money, time and efforts with
    a comparable DN.
If you don't want to disclose the DN you lost, PM me and
I'll see what I can come up with.
    Obviously, no strings attached.

Well, you could take your chances at the arbitration forum if it is a brandable.
That would cost I think $1,200 without an attorney.
    Otherwise, just try to negotiate.

You can PM me the domain in question or...

Post your requirements on domain wanted section at DNForum and NamePros.
If your max budget is $1K, post your max budget as $500.

I have zero experience with them, but I've seen people say to call them on the phone rather than submit offers online.

They are an actual business with employees, so it's not going to be one of those cases where $2,000 becomes a $100 sale. I'm kind of pulling this figure out my rear, but I would think you could get it for $1,500, give or take a couple hundred. I would call and offer $500 and see what they say.

I'm not saying the domain because I'd buy it for the listed price, so with that said, I could be bought out, then someone could get me to maybe pay even more. LOL! I'll try a lower price... possibly in that $500 to $650 range for starters. Don't know, but I want that domain back and if I have to pay for it, then I win anyway; just cost me some $$$.

      Thanks for the replies.

Well it really depends on the domain name.

I see some of the prices being asked for some domains on sites like Huge Domains and I just don't see how they arrive at these high values.

I suspect its really a numbers game for these companies - they know that if they price these domains between $xK and $yK they will sell a large enough proportion of their inventory each year to make it worth their while.

If you feel that the number of potential buyers for the name you are after is negligible / the commercial value is negligible then it may be worth offering them a lot less.

However, if you are prepared to be a bit flexible you might be able to buy something simply for the registration fee. Have a look at this article and see what you think..............

Haven't dealt with HugeDomains but I have with BuyDomains which I imagine is comparable. They will come down quite a bit on their prices. They list them extremely high and then usually accept a much lower offer. Definitely start pretty low and go up only at low increments and more times than not they will not want to lose a sale.

      Hey Fellow Warriors!

I read all your replies and it makes me happy to get some good advice. HD said they have over 350,000 domains. They own them and don't consign other's domains. That's a huge investment.

I'm going to offer a low price and work from there. If someone else wants to add their .02 cents, cool. After a while this post may drop, but I WILL keep you informed later on as the outcome of this debacle as I should have paid attention better.

      Thank you.

I'd be interested in hearing the outcome.

I just made a low offer of $150 on a CityNameNiche.com that is listed at $1,695. I will post their reply when they get back to me.
