    Getting traffic to image hosting sites is not difficult. It is just that you server could be overwhelmed very soon and your earnings may not cover the cost of your hosting.

      Yeah, this can happen... I was thrown off my shared server back in 2005 and since then I have been paying for a dedicated server. Currently I am paying for a pair of managed dedicated servers that cost me over 4K a year. Yeah, you gotta make the money to pay for the hardware! But of course with good hardware usually comes good performance and that is a big plus when serving images.

      FWIW I was tossed from my shared box back in '05 when one of my gallery sites was getting 450K page views per day.

    Use adult images. Post some Adult images on adult website with a watermark that point to your hosting.

    Good images, good titles, good descriptions and good keywords can bring you a decent amount of traffic via the search engines. Posting some of the images to large sharing and social media sites with linkbacks will bring you traffic as well.

    Of course I make money by selling image licenses, and I also make money from adsense, and by selling advertising on my images and gallery related blogs. You can also make money by becoming an affiliate for the larger image sites as well as an affiliate for products or services related to the images or the image business.

    If you do a professional hosting site that offers professional services you can earn money by charging a fee to host the images and/or take a cut of the product sales.
