Question: Is Video Interviewing a Good Plan?

Interested to hear feedback from Warriors (since I just launched a course about how to do video interviews, PM me for more info if you like):

Do you think that interviewing on video works well for online marketing? (whether in webinars, Hangouts, review blogs etc)

If not doing it, is there a reason why?

I think video is great, but I prefer when there's a written transcript to go along with it so that I can go back and skim through parts that I want to hear again. It's a lot harder to do that with video. Plus, with text, I can copy and paste the most important stuff to remember later.

Definitely agree with you on that. One of the great parts of video product creation IMHO is the 'three-for-one' aspect: video > audio > pdf. And because editing interviews is so much easier with written transcript, that can become a product in itself, seems to me...

I think it'd work well. I've seen products being sold where gurus had been interviewed. For online marketing, they would have to be of individuals who have been there and done that--the interviews would come across as believable.

Completely agree that interviewees should have authority.

In my mind, that does't necessarily mean being a guru, or even having got all the way there and back if you see what I mean. Sometimes, providing someone is being straightforward and sharing, a journey in progress can also teach a lot; that's my feeling...

Good point. Then it would probably depend on your target audience and your purpose of conducting the interviews.

Are they merely to inform and help? Are you selling a product/service? Who do you want to see them?

The idea is very good in my opinion, Paul. I think it is smart to combine video, transcript and audio. Mainly because different people like to learn in different ways. Also, a combination of all 3 adds a lot of extra perceived value.

Really like your point about perceived value, Saul. Spot on IMHO.
