Embedded video with no call to action

Those sites that start off with a video and have some dude keep saying "I'm about to.... in one minute... going to..." And they never say anything of substance. I can't stand them at all, and it boggles my mind why they don't just put a buy now button right under it.

Do these actually work? It seems that the majority of CB products do this and I can't bring myself to sit through the entire thing. I can go on and on about why I don't like them, but I suppose they might be used for a reason.

All things being equal are these better or worse than video + cta? How about the giant wall of text format? I understand the presell is going to be a factor, but the internet is all about instant gratification, not listening to some random drivel on.

In my mind these are an instant no-go even if the product appears to be selling fairly well.

So I realized that this isn't just specific products but rather a bug/feature. On a number of offers I will get slightly different landing pages when I refresh. Sometimes there is a big call to action other times (most of the time) there is nothing.

The hell is going on here? Has anyone seen anything like this? I don't know what to do, its driving me mad. I guess I will check a variety of products, but like I said the behavior is sometimes consistent and sometimes inconsistent.

When the CTA isn't shown the only way the user would purchase the product is after they click the x to close out of the page a popup confirms that they want to leave. Basically the point of no return - no cta = no sale.

Edit: I also tried many browsers and several OS's, machines, virtual machines, etc. Same results.

Actually They have their own strategy. Most of them have a Email opt-in box. Whatever they want to get benefit. So they are actually getting something in exchange.

Well these are offers I am considering promoting, only reason I am concerned about it.

No these have absolutely no call to action, just a video until you try to leave the page.

And like I said it isn't consistent. Its like there are 2 landing pages. Surely they wouldn't do this intentionally? I don't see any positives to doing this, nor is it unethical, just poor design.

Has anyone else encountered CB ads with that behavior?
